• Stock Photography?

I'm interested in making a little bit of side money by using photography as a medium. I don't feel I'm good enough to take portraits for people or sell my creative work, but stock photography seems interesting. I was wondering if anyone in the forums sells stock photography and what site they recommend to sell stock images to. Also, what are some good topics to take pictures of? The top four (if I had to make a guess) on my list would be: Money / Business Exchange (Classic handshake pictures) Weight / Health (Cliche chick holding avocados or some shit) Going Green (Dirt and grass and trees and shit) Food photography (Seems like almost any website uses food in their ads and images) What should I do to get started, and how much should I edit the pictures? Just a basic curves / levels adjustment? Thanks guys
Food photography is fucking complex to get right. Take photos of cities, moving people all blurred and other boring shit
I have tried it but failed. My photo's were accepted but they just didn't bring in money. From what i've gathered from those sites though is that they want mostly bright and vivid pictures. If your picture is too dark or has alot of dark tones, even if that was on purpose, you'll most likely get the advice from the site to lighten up your picture and turn up the saturation. Don't expect to make money. It's just not a good way to make some sidemoney. You could always send a message to all of your girl friends on facebook or myspace or whatever you use with the message 'Do a fotoshoot for only 10 bux!' Most don't even know/care that you aren't actually a pro photographer. They just want a picture to post and brag to all their others friends by saying they had a pro photoshoot.

Yeah, that is a good idea with the model photo shoot. I just don't want girls to think I'm creepy as shit for offering to take pictures of them.
Food photography is fucking complex to get right.
This is true. My dad is a graphic designer involved in marketing and I have seen the people at his company working in the photographic studios on food advertisement. They have to paint the food and gloss it up and stuff with all kinds of crazy things - most of the time it isn't even cooked, they just do it up so it looks like it was cooked perfectly. They even use mashed potato instead of ice cream because ice cream melts too fast under the studio lighting. Far more complicated than you might expect. Either that or the close friends of close friends. It's when you start asking pretty girls you barely know that you look like a pervert. The problem there though is that you have to know some beautiful people.
