Just a couple thoughts for you guys to discuss. I feel like this is an interesting topic and some day I'm sure we're going to have to make decisions as a planet about these issues.
Should robots be allowed to have sentience? And if so, how far should it go? Should we put things in them to prevent crime or allow them to live like actual human beings?
Should robots with human-like artificial intelligence have [b]human[/b] rights?
Should destroying a robot with human intelligence count as murder?
Should robots be allowed to practice religion?
Should robots be allowed to marry other robots?
Should robots be allowed to marry humans?
Post your thoughts.
Did you just read The Bicentennial Man?
I can just imagine the laws that we will come up with.
robot gay marriage.
robot voting rights.
robot fights.
If a robot dies in a forest, does it make a sound?
This just in:
[B]Apple releases: "The iRobot"[/B]
[QUOTE]Should robots be allowed to have sentience? And if so, how far should it go? Should we put things in them to prevent crime or allow them to live like actual human beings?[/QUOTE]
If you're going to make them sentient, you might as well put on boundaries to 'prevent crime' or whatever, because consider humans and all the evolutionary baggage that limits us. If you want to make a posthuman, then give them boundless, wholly modular and easily 'upgradeable' consciousness, or at least a model of consciousness that is not held back by these primeval things.
[QUOTE]Should robots with human-like artificial intelligence have human rights?[/QUOTE]
Yes. Actually we should just redefine 'human rights' as 'sentient rights' and get over it.
[QUOTE]Should destroying a robot with human intelligence count as murder?[/QUOTE]
Yes. If they can think, if they can do anything a human can but the only difference is that they are bounded in silico, where do we draw the line? Is it really necessary?
[QUOTE]Should robots be allowed to practice religion?[/QUOTE]
Yes. Along with other personal philosophies and political ideologies.
[QUOTE]Should robots be allowed to marry other robots?[/QUOTE]
HOW DARE YOU MARRIAGE IS AN OUTDATE -- Yeah sure why not. Personal freedoms, etc etc. Same for these last questions.

Refer to Orion's Arm Geek Code:
[QUOTE]TS: Tigersplice Secretary
The Tigersplice secretary developed as an in-joke on the OA list. You have to be there to understand, I suppose.
TS--- : Sex before marriage outside one's clade is an abomination of [insert suitable S6 entity's name here]!!!
TS-- : If it's not homo sapiens and of the appropriate gender, I abstain.
TS- : I prefer near-baselines with furry fetish.
TS : Eh. I suppose that tail's good for something.
TS+ : Siberian or Bengal?
TS++ : Kinky! Now we just need some whipped cream...
TS+++ : Mee-YOW! Lemme at 'em!
!TS : Ouch! Claws and fangs? NOOOOO thankyouverymuch!

Isn't MIT working on a 15 year project to create an android?

that made me cry
OP just played Portal 2
OP just read some Issac Asimov
Us humans fear that one day robots will be smarter than us. This will never happen.
What happened to anarcho-primitism?

How do you know this?
[QUOTE=xZippy;29541544]Us humans fear that one day robots will be smarter than us. This will never happen.[/QUOTE]
Posit your reasoning.
I can see Fox Noise and several various religious groups raising a gigantic hubub about HumanXRobotic relationships and whatnot.
They'll try and get Robo-Sapien marriage banned, angry marching in the streets, robo-human couples getting attacked after-hours, basically what's happening with gay/interracial marriage now :v:
Seriously, it makes sense.
If a robot is capable of thought it should have the same rights as any other sentient creature.
Scratch that, if [b]anything[/b] is capable of thought it should have the same rights as any other sentient creature.

The robots would crush the republicans.
Which should be standard programming.

I can see an attack on a human-lover going horribly, horribly wrong :v:
Why give them sentience? I prefer my tools to not think for themselves.

OP proved the opposite.

Why should computers simply be tools? I for one am extremely intrigued by the idea of artificial intelligence.

We have no need for other things to think like us, without boundaries, if such things are possible.
Yes to everything.
Robots are built to work for us. There is no need for them to behave or be like us in any way, only that they work for us. If we make one sentinent, it will see us as an oppressive force against its "race" and it will make a program of its own to give all other robots sentinent power, hense a robot war.
I hope this does happen. I'll laugh at who ever thought it was a good idea.
Robot sex toys..

The cool thing about real life is that a robot with A.I. couldn't just go "lol sentient now" with a magic program and make everything sentient.

You forgot:
"Should robots be allowed to flood buildings with deadly neurotoxin?"
You people need to be enlightened.

I think robots should never have their own will, because then they would just be dangerous, we don't need no robot uprisings and other generic movie shit in real life
