Elex is a handcrafted action role-playing experience from the award-winning creators of the Gothic series, set in a brand new post-apocalyptic Science Fantasy universe that puts players into a huge seamless game world full of original characters, mutated creatures, deep moral choices and powerful action.
In Elex, you join the war over a powerful resource that gives people great magic-like powers, but turns them into indifferent cold creatures. You decide if emotions and humaneness or cold synthetic logic will rule the world of Magalan.
Features
Completely seamless Open World experience without borders and loading zones for the ultimate exploration experience
Vertical Exploration: Use the jetpack to reach any place in the game world.
Simulated game world where everything reacts to the players actions and provides for an authentic atmosphere.
Highly interconnected quest system that support true player choices.
Tactical and challenging combat system for close and ranged combat.
Universe set in a post apocalyptic science fantasy universe that combines the most interesting aspects of all genres.[/QUOTE]
The whole backstory is as generic as it gets, but science-fantasy gets me hard, so I like this. And it's a new IP too
The only thing is Visually the game looks sort of confused. Like the sci-fi feels like it doesn't fit the fantasy vibes?
Looks a bit poop
White dude with a buzzcut and gravely voice doing scifi/fantasy shit in some place for some reason. How original.
Gameplay looks like shit too.

Yeah, a black dude with long blond hair could have saved this game. But I agree, the trailer wasn't very good and the gameplay looks rough.
Honestly looking into it more, I was interested in the features more than anything else and because they made Gothic I thought "Can't be that bad right?" But hm, like... It looks generic plot wise sure, though I'll be honest it has some interesting ideas here and there, the gameplay looks crap currently, with bare bones animations, but i'm willing to forgive something that is legitimately pre-alpha at this point.
Doesn't save it from criticism obviously, they put this out there so they should expect that, but I'd give it time to develop before passing complete and total judgement, they've made quite a few great games before this that I've enjoyed, guess I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I really don't think that matters much, you can make anything interesting and we honestly don't know enough about the world to make that judgement, especially when the trailer doesn't really tell you anything at all about the game.
Instead of a proper mashup like most science fantasies, they hired artists who only do fantasy and put them together with another team of artists who only do sci-fi.
But yeah the gameplay looks really rough, hope they find enough time to fine tune with a release date that soon.

I mean from what i can gather of the plot, advanced future technology existed, then the world got hit by a meteor that caused an apocalyptic scenario and almost all of the technologically advanced society post meteor was completely destroyed in the aftermath, except for a few tribes of people who still utilize the surviving technology and tribes who didn't have access to the technology, so are low tech, said meteor also bringing with it a substance called Elex which allows you to do all sorts of things, it can be used for power generation, could alter genetic structures, give people powers.
So it's not just a really unfitting mashup, it has it's reasons for advanced technology existing.

Found the prolog.
Looks bad
doesn't help that the last few gothic games were kind of a mess
did the developer hit themselves in the head and forget they weren't making an MMO?
combat looks atrocious and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if you receive quests from a guy with an icon over his head

Isn't that the backstory to Adventure Time?
I am a huge fan of post apocalypse science fiction with massive differences between the technology used by various factions and populations but it seems every game that tackles this type of genre shits it up and this looks like no exception. It even looks like it plays like a Gothic game, and in 2017, that's not a good thing.
