The videos, recorded by the family of Muriel Price, 83, show carers failing to turn up for visits or turning up late, causing Mrs Price great distress. The company involved say they were never informed the family had concerns. They say the care of patients is of paramount importance to them. Care minister Norman Lamb is hosting a summit with domiciliary care providers and carers on Wednesday in an attempt to improve standards within the industry. Mrs Price's grandson installed two CCTV cameras in her house in Blackpool, Lancashire, to monitor her movements and to provide help should she fall when she was home alone.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22885514
My sister works in care, it's not always the fault of the carers themselves. The company she works for, CareUK, set her absolutely insane deadlines to get to client's houses by, especially relative to the distance between one client to another (she's one of the few people working there that can drive). She's received multiple complaints of being late despite there being absolutely nothing she can do, and she keeps trying to bring it up with her manager but gets turned away every time. Oh, she also only gets paid for hours she's actually working with clients, so the ridiculous 14 hour days she works isn't paid for 14 hours. The care system is completely fucked.
