There are definitely some spoilers in the video, so be aware of it and don't watch it if you care about that sort of thing. I know there is a lot of drama going on over how EA handled the game but I saw this video and thought it was incredibly interesting how they were able to get all these little connections and nods to the extended universe. One problem with the campaign is all these references that make no sense to the average player.

It's a universe populated by aliens and humans with their own cultures, histories and side stories like it's a real living 'snap shot' of that period in the universe. It's kinda neat to me. Like, it's a sci-fi setting. You're not supposed to get the references of any sci-fi setting without reading into the lore. That's like getting upset over LOTR movies because you've never read the books so the references don't make sense.
Is the loot box debaucle a reference to the Darth Vader line "I am altering the deal, pray I don't alter it any further" and Lando's betrayal of the empire?
It's sad that there's clearly a massive amount of effort put into this game by the creators, but the publishers killed it with time restraints and loot boxes

No context at all.
The actual issue is that the easter eggs were the best part of the singleplayer. After advertising this game as "the biggest thing EA has ever made" with emphasis being on the canon narrative of the inferno squad, it's really a giant fucking kick in the balls to play as them for what feels like [sp]less than half the actual game.[/sp]. The rest feels like a giant tutorial for heroes with absolutely no connection to any characters and little to no believable motivations. But the easter eggs were nice.

Just thru playing the story (and I even skipped a few cutscenes) I was able to piece together that [sp]it was basically the empire holocaust against their own homeworlds as a show of force against the Empire's enemies[/sp]. Either way, I would still call that a failing of the writers rather than a "reference" since they failed to clearly explain what it was
The actual issue is that the easter eggs were the best part of the singleplayer. It's literally an unabashed bait and switch.[/sp] And the Origin Access demo is essentially one level under half of the game

Note: I haven't finished the video, and I want to sleep, so if this is explained in the video, my bad. [sp]The Emperor didn't give a shit about the Empire, and while you were half right in that it's a method to scare the Empire's enemies, it was also a method of fucking up the Empire itself while a new Empire is started out in the middle of bumfuck-nowhere-space (the Unknown Regions). Basically, he's burning everything to the ground (including the Empire) and starting it anew because he believed that if he were allowed to die, then the old Empire didn't deserve to live.[/sp]

It doesn't even make sense that she cares about her homeworld so much as up until that point was fiercely loyal to the Empire, even as much as her dad appeared to be, and if she was trained by the Empire under her father's supervision why would her opinion differ so much from his? It would have been cooler if you got to get all the way to like, the foundations of the first order by the climax of the story, then Iden finds out after not questioning orders and doing what she was told and carrying out Holocaust Space Boogaloo, that it was all in the service of nothing and she committed mass murder based on the ego of a crusty politician and that the First Order was built on something equally as corrupt, THEN she could defect as an admiral while having an identity crisis/breakdown. It's like she's Finn, but without a likable character or charisma behind it. Having the story follow at least up until they get to outer regions would have been a way to have the whole game be Empire based, rather than literally clickbaiting an Empire story [/sp] but that would be provided the story was actually interesting and thought out. [sp]it's also unbelievable how fast they're transferred over to the resistance and how trusting and willing everyone is towards them. like, are you shitting me? Leia trusted high ranking Spec-Ops Imperials that, hours earlier, had taken down a rebel cruiser alone, THAT FAST after living through what happened in ESB?[/sp]
I don’t think it was hours
regardless, not a very long amount of time. I'm pretty sure by this point Mon Mothma is still supposed to be alive, so I find it hard to believe the Resistance (still largely comprised of the same people), et. al would be so quick to accept the help of full blooded Imperials when they barely trusted Jyn Erso just for being the daughter of Galen
