HAWTHORNE, Calif. — Hawthorne police have released a second video of the incident in which an officer fatally shot a man’s Rottweiler as it lunged at the officers arresting it’s owner. Police believe this angle of the video exonerates the officer’s actions.
The second video, taken by another witness on the scene, shows more interaction between the officers, the dog, and Leon Rosby, the dog’s owner, who was being arrested for interfering with in a police operation, according to Newsone.com.
One officer is seen reaching several times for the dog's leash as it becomes aggressive and lunges at this officer, who is forced to fire at the dog.
This one doesnt show the dog getting shot and flopping in the street. It only goes until the first shot, then promptly stops

gotta love editing
The part of the video that was cut off can be seen in ragawagas avatar.
That's great how the guy filming this or someone near by cheers the cop on.
I could see where they're coming from, but it's obvious that the dog was agitated and being aggressive towards the owner is what escalated it.
The guy filming said, "Shoot it, shoot it!"
what a dick

Me too, not that it has anything to do with this video.
This shines some light on the situation. Evidently this guy was being overly confrontational on the basis of being hassled for getting too close to the police cordon. So he got vocal, despite being half at fault in this case. Once the cops came to, still unjustifiably, cuff him, events transpired just as I described before: the dog was confused and did what it thought was best to protect it's owner and lunged at the officer, only now it's evident the owner was frantically trying to stop the officers from gunning down his dog, which doesn't really redeem anyone in this case.
The owner could've shouted "Let me calm him down, don't shoot" instead of simply "don't shoot". And the cops could've picked up on that by uncuffing the guy, who already willingly let himself be cuffed without resisting. He was clearly not as big a threat as a panicking dog.
But of course people don't think straight in situations like this. Just as I said: senseless waste of life. Both sides dropped the ball here. Learn from it, not dwell on it. That's the best we can do now.
The cops clearly didn't intend to shoot the dog but they didn't have to do it. The dog was only shot when it jumped at the officer.
