• AMD will start manufacturing ram now.
It looks like AMD has decided to branch into yet another system component: RAM. They’ll be using the familiar Radeon branding and will split the brand into three editions: The Entertainment Edition (DDR3-1333) targets low-cost entry level systems, Performance Edition (DDR3-1333/1600) targets gaming- and multimedia-oriented mainstream systems, and Radeon Edition (DDR3-1866) targets do-it-all enthusiast systems. All of the RAM will be available in 2, 4, and 8GB capacities. Heatsinks are included on the Radeon Edition and optional on the other two lines. What may be interesting is AMD appears to be partnering with another manufacturer to produce this memory, since they have no known facilities to fabricate the components and are likely rebranding another company’s parts. Given that Patriot is listed as one of their partners it seems likely they could be the primary supplier. No official announcement has been made regarding street date or pricing. AMD RAM goes official Update 11/27/2011 The RAM is now official. Manufacturing partners are Patriot and VisionTek. Availability should be (almost) immediate.
http://tech.icrontic.com/news/amd-radeon-branded-ram-coming-soon/ This sorta makes sense, then you can have an AMD CPU, motherboard, and ram. Then top it off with an AMD graphics card. Also ram may now focus more on the AMD side of things over the usual Intel assumption.
It makes sense they'll make use of the AMD brand RIP ATI
At least Radeon survived.
I don't see why they would rename a perfectly reputable and successful line of product
"Also ram may now focus more on the AMD side of things over the usual Intel assumption. " Can somebody explain how this'll work?
At least Radeon survived.
But it's just not the same :saddowns:
Sorry AMD, but I already downloaded a bunch of RAM onto my PC
I'll always remember it as ATI Radeon.
Will it be for AMD boards only?
Will it be for AMD boards only?
That would be plain stupid. You'd they want to be competitive.
If its just rebranded Patriot and VisionTek I don't see the reason of buying AMD ram for the extra cost of having another middleman.
I'll always remember it as ATI Radeon.
I've used ATI so much I've yet to use AMD for anything other than their processors.
I know there are obvious differences between AMD's Graphics cards and Processors compared to Intels, but what's going to be AMD's RAM difference with someone like, say Corsair?
I like AMD because it's usually cheaper than Intel and nVidia for about the same thing, it's just their OS I have a problem with. Catalyst Control Center was a MESS until about a month ago
but will they come with cool casings like g.skill?
but will they come with cool casings like g.skill?
Casings/heat spreaders on RAM are pretty worthless really.
Casings/heat spreaders on RAM are pretty worthless really.
More heat = shorter life span, less heat at higher clocks = better overclocking potential? Not sure as I don't OC my memory by that much.
I want some Rage RAM.
Casings/heat spreaders on RAM are pretty worthless really.
It's literally just plastic.
It'd be nice if they introduced some sort of bundling system, eg. "Buy an AMD processor, GPU, motherboard and RAM and get something!" - Preferably a price reduction... Purely wishful thinking.

What they really need is a full team which can get stuff done quicker and more effectively. This does however need verification I'm only going by what a reliable friend I know told me but he's never used anything other than NVidia in his rigs since the Radeon 9800. He does however test ATI cards.
AMD is amazing, my old dell laptop now has an AMD Vision and AMD Graphics Card. Sadly GTA IV still lags but I can play it at high.
fuck amd www.downloadmoreram.com 4 lyfe!!1!~~ /sarcasm
I'll always remember it as ATI [del]Radeon[/del].
I wont be too happy if they start making all 3 components and then start requiring that you use all 3 if you use one. worse, it would force nvidia into a corner to partner with intel.

Does anyone else find it insane that DDR2 costs more than DDR3? I got an old gaming laptop I'm hoping to upgrade but I'm thinking it might be better to just find a new one.
DDR2 production is limited now that the newer model has been out of years, so yeah, they cost more.

I also find that Nvidia is faster at getting SLI profiles out compared to AMD getting out Crossfire profiles. This is all made up for in my case because my 6950 unlocked to a 6970 performs just as well as a GTX580 in Battlefield 3 for 1/2 the price and thus I don't need any crossfire profiles.
Aww, only DDR3. I guess I will not be getting these.
