A 21-year-old Army veteran who recently returned from Afghanistan was fatally shot after a dispute on a Sylmar street early Sunday, police said. Francisco Garcia died at the scene of the shooting in the 13200 block of Dronfield Street before 2 a.m., said Los Angeles police Lt. Paul Vernon. "The ironies are obvious," Vernon said. "To survive as a soldier in an overseas conflict, only to be killed in your old neighborhood upon your return.' Garcia had been celebrating with family and friends at the home of his girlfriend nearby when partygoers decided to move to a new location, said Det. Juan Santa.
Los Angeles Times
I'm sorry, but this is really only news because Tuesday is Veteran's Day. People are shot all the time, and given that it happened at about 2am, I'm guessing alcohol was involved. Still sad.
I don't see him being a veteran as relevant to the actual event, but seeing as how it's nearing Remembrance Day, I can see why they make mention of it. I don't see why someone would just pull a gun and shoot someone, unless they are defending themselves, then it's just pointless half the time.
For a second there, I was having a mini-freakout because I thought it was my sister that got shot. Called to see if she was ok. Turns out she got more than one shot, though, considering how shitfaced she is.
What?
He's probably from Sylmar, California and his sister is probably a veteran. Unless all of that was supposed to be one joke about alcohol, in which case stop doing comedy.
"People are shot all the time" really shouldn't be something you just accept unless you live in like an active war zone.
"In da hood, people be like shooting you from everywhere and shit" That's what pops up in my head everytime I hear this... they either live in the slums, where crime and poverty excels, and murder is just part of life down in those areas... unless your fucking rich and live in an area of less crime, you don't have to worry about anything... The more that I hear about who shot who, the more I think this nation is now have a big poverty problem, and the results from economic news, minimum wage, and "the rich get richer, and the poor gets poorer" message that I've been hearing, is a strong issue that we have here in this nation.
