So apparently our newborn kitten has two mothers (pics inside)

If you thought "fuck yeah lesbian cat porn" then I'm afraid you were wrong.

Alright, so once upon a time we got a cat. Said cat got two kittens - one male and one female - which means we now have three cats. The original cat got one kitten about two months ago or so.
Now the strange part is that while she is the mother of that kitten, her older daughter (previously mentioned female cat) acts completely like a mother to this newborn kitten. Why is this? Is it natural that cats will take care of other cats' kittens even though the original mother is still alive and can take care of it?
In either case it's cool because the kitten get a lot of attention and is doing fine. It's just strange and I wonder if anyone know a bit about it.

Oh yeah and the male cat born by above cat is hiding in the shadows waiting for its prey. Don't get too close to the car.

The gray cat pictured below is the secondary mother in charge of the kitten. The kitten is white with black areas. I don't see it to be honest, but it's in there somewhere. No, the big one is my dog, even though he matches the description too.

The gray fuck wasn't pleased to have a camera stuck in her face so she sort of hid the kitten, but you see it. The white and black furry bastard is the kitten. As you can probably tell, the gray one is taking that mother role p. seriously.

Then my dog was like "fuck this shit" so he threw his lazy bum on the ground. Wise move.
