Nw, I had no clue we were debating on wether or not global climate change still existed, I figured everyone knew the truth. Well, for all you non believers, look at this.
Basically he uses a graphic organizer to explain why acting on global warming is the best option we have.
SRSLY: WATCH THE WHOLE VIDEO

Yes, we have a forum for this.

I dont want to discuss the video, I want to discuss its content.
Thank you mjb for the content, full explanation of the video and intelligent analysis.

I would expect this from a 10'er
What a shame that I can't stand to just watch people talk. Looks like it would have been interestingly boring. What's it about anyways?

He puts together a simple diagram explaining why acting on global warming is the best option we have, regardless of if its real or not. he determined that acting on it is the best solution.
...that's sagacious? I thought it was rather obvious that acting on global warming has multiple other benefits for the world and it's people, even if it doesn't exist/isn't anthropogenic.
EDIT: Makes sense, but I doubt it would have much effect. And i'm trying to find an SMBC comic about this exact thing, but I can't seem to find it...

I thought the same thing. Until I realized that wether or not global warming existed was still debatable, and some people really think it doesn't exist. This was directed more so toward the silly folks who have a hard time with logic.
I am a rather open minded person, I really am, but I still think it's fake, and unless god himself said to me "No, It's real." then I'm not going to believe it.
Hell with things the way they are now, were going into an economic collapse anyway.
This video is oooold. And that guy is a douche.
"The most terrifying video you will ever see"? Please, my pants are still clean.
Well, this is how everyone acts when faced with a difficult situation. Not just global warming.
Ant it lies in the nature of our society that we are indecisive pricks, even on a large scale. For
all I can say, we will suffer the consequences of not taking action about a dawning environmental
crisis. Because I know noone will ever take proper action. If global warming is not a problem now, we
will just wait a century until it is and still not do anything about it. And at the end of the story, we
will have SOME kind of catastrophe, and noone will have learned from it or admit that at any point
he did a mistake. Just my scenario on how this whole thing will turn out
You can't just put up a simple diagram and take conclusions based on it. The impact that climate change may have on the planet can't just be summed up as "non-existent" or "Catastrophic". he makes it look like his "Doom Scenarios" have a 50% chance of happening. Which is ofcourse, bullshit.
This kind of retarded reasoning seems popular with people. What he does is he basically limits your view, and then tells you how bad your odds are within that limited view. People are used to people monologuing to them, because of the TV. They're used to not asking questions, thinking for themselves. They're used to other people telling them what they should think, what their opinions are.
Be a thinker, not a listener.
This guys entire argument is absurd,
He's trying to say that its impossible to know in anything resembling certainty if we are causing global warming, or even if its happening or not,
and then jumps to the conclusion that we should act like its happening independent of any observations that might say otherwise, because he thinks thats a good gamble.
Ignoring the fact that taking action in reality is far from just trying to bet on the best odds and hope your right.
His argument could be used for countless other situations which illustrate the ridiculousness of the argument, for example:
"Lets not waste our time debating whether or not earth is about to be invaded by hostile aliens, worst case scenario is we build up unnecessary fortifications and build giant lasers that never get used,
But imagine if we take no action, we could be invaded, our cities destroyed, and our women probed anally by little green men. I think I've shown that we MUST prepare for an alien invasion, regardless of whether or not one is going to occur."

But wouldn't you consider this "climate change" to have more favor than an alien attack?

Whatever the weather, whether drizzle or splatter, none of it matters to me
But wouldn't you consider this "climate change" to have more favor than an alien attack?
But then your not using his argument of "act for the worst possible outcome, regardless of evidence"
Your attempting to say that there is evidence for climate change, and because of that one should act accordingly, thats very different from just laying out "worst case scenarios" and preparing for them, regardless of if its possible or probable for them to happen.
Recall that this guys entire argument rests upon the idea that evidence for or against global warming is unnecessary to consider when deciding how to act regarding it.
Watching more of this guys videos(he made a like 300 video response to that original one) he seems to be some sort of philosophical skeptic, and would appear to reject that idea that you can find evidence which objectively proves something.
Even if we do something, there is no way to know it will work at all, so even if we do act, it might head right down doomsday avenue and we're still fucked.
But wouldn't you consider this "climate change" to have more favor than an alien attack?
It's not about the situation, it's about the retarded way the guy argues, by dumbing down the deal into a "yes or no" graph.
Look, I think we can all pretty much agree on the fact that the climate is changing. The climate is always changing. The climate was also changing before there were even people on the planet, driving around in their polluting cars.
The real question regarding the climate debate isn't "whether the climate is changing, yes or no", the question is how fast it is changing, and whether we can or cannot do something about it.
People generally consider CO2 to be the culprit behind global warming, but that's not certain at all. And when you're not even sure about what is causing the climate change, acting can be very dangerous, and can lead to more harm than good.
What's this gay ?
