A multitude of enormous (and very strange) structures have been spotted on Google Earth recently. The structures are located in a very peculiar place, namely the middle of the Chinese desert!

This one really needs a closer look, it would appear there are vehicles arranged in a radial pattern: http://g.co/maps/vgdf7

Possibly the strangest, thousands of lines forming some kind of grid (can't see it very well in the above photo): http://g.co/maps/gzahp

Interesting image, it would seem a replica of some airport has been created only it uses different material, perhaps a decoy (bonus strange blue structure off to the right): http://g.co/maps/375xc
So, what are your thoughts? A few of them look like Google glitches to me, perhaps just duplicated lines. Some of them are slightly harder to explain, though. Especially the first and the circular pattern.
These very mysterious structures are not the first to be of questionable purpose, China made this back in 2006: http://www.gearthblog.com/blog/archives/2006/07/huge_scale_mode.html
Very odd, if you ask me.
Images sourced from gizmodo, you may have seen the article here: http://gizmodo.com/5859081/why-is-china-building-these-gigantic-structures-in-the-middle-of-the-desert
It kinda looks like a military bombing area.
Which would explain why it's in the middle of the Gobi desert.

You can find some strange looking blue buildings if you follow that link. It's most likely a bombing range. Hence the blue buildings, it being cut off from major areas of population, etc.
The circular vehicle arrangement looks like an obvious bomb test, where they see how much damage a single bomb can produce in a radial pattern.
Well it's obvious. Hitler and his occultist scientist fled to China.

Wow that grid one is quite insane.
The only thing I can think of is some kind of radar thing.
Maybe they're Spy-sattelite test patterns?
That gird one is defiantly weird. I'm going with Nerdrage except they're probably just normal sattelites.

They're maybe building a Death Star prototype. :v:
ive been watching full metal alchemist, i bet the chinese have, so its obvously a grand transmutation circle :P
or a bomb test
the airport recreation probably part of a simulated invasion wargame where they are taking/destroying an airport, think modern warfare 2 with real guns, but without the lethal bullets
and the top one that looks like broken glass....beats me
I support the bombing range theory, the one with the radial pattern looks like it could be used to test the blast radius for explosives. And the grid pattern could be used to track artillery/missile guidance systems via satellite or some shit like that. No idea what the fuck the first on is though.
Those things in the center of the circle look a lot like MiG jets.
Those things in the center of the circle look a lot like MiG jets.
From the wings and the flat front. Looks like a MiG 17, or a 15.
"It was 'dem reptilians I tell yah! Dey been working with the Chinese to conquer us and turn us into cheesecake!
Mmmm....cheesecake."
In all do seriousness, the second is definitely a bomb test. It seems logical that they are, as stated before, tested the explosion radius of devices within a circular pattern.
Some of the others maybe look like observation areas (the blue buildings are likely that, as they look rather temporary) and the airport is, well, maybe they're seeing if building an airport out of certain materials has any effect on plane speed?
The lines are likely a Google Maps fuck-up. I've seen similar ones in the Atacama and Sahara deserts before. I think the satellite just has trouble recording sand dunes, and the drastic changes in color if you zoom in seem to support that theory. From the looks of it though, it does look more like some kind of wavelength interference fucking with the satellite, but I'm no expert.
Or maybe it is reptilians and it's all a cover up. I'm tellin yer, dey be coming to turn us into cheesecake! FEMA's in on it! Quickly, get yer tin foil hats!
Jesus, whats with the dumbs? The reptilian shit was a joke you guys.
And then znk666 gets 6 agrees and 2 funnies? I don't fucking understand this forum anymore.
these fucking stinky slinks are all over the forums
To me it looks like urban planning. Except for the runway. That's just weird.
With the circular one it may be some kind of explosive testing, checking the blast radius and shrapnel range of a new bomb or something.
My guess is they're testing nukes?

So there's only 23 of you,eh?
Hey guys, i just found another one, not far away from the first picture.

Damn it, now that i opened the gizmodo article, its the first damn picture.
Fuck me.

No, Im just the 23rd. There are many of us, and slowly there's gonna be hell on your planet

I gotta tell my people to start using the cloaking devices, we are too easily spotted

I can't even imagine how much time must've been put into this. If this stuff actually is etched to the ground.
I mean the entire area of these grid lines is huge.
My thought on the patterns is possible terrain tests, you know where they use x-ray stuff to see what is in the ground. Maybe they're trying to find oil or some other precious stuff.
Who the fuck knows.
There are grids all over if you look around. They are truly massive. They look similar to what you see if you fly over Texas. Looks like untapped oil reserves. Considering it's smack dab in the Tarim basin.

I want to know what that is though. Looks like a giant pool. It's 13-14 miles long, and looks like it uses aqueducts to collect water.
[editline]15th November 2011[/editline]
That's a fucking algae farm.

Or a nuclear powerplant, it has cooling towers. I don't fucking know anymore.
Maybe they just want to make China look pretty.

ZNK didn't try as hard as you did.
These could be just shitty aerial pictures. The "odd things" in a few of these pictures could be easily results of shitty lenses or something else obstructing the view.
Also in one of the pictures the river just appears white in a single aerial picture, it's not a building.
There are a few that are not so easily explainable.
The grid one is extremely interesting, there's some very odd patterns forming up there, if you zoom in you can see some vertical "roads" that have this odd dotted grid on them, the horizontal "roads" have enough separation on them for them to be vehicular tracks, and it seems to coherently stick to the surface so it doesn't appear to just be something drawn on top of the image. There are some seemingly random track marks around too, so the hypothesis of them being roads pretty much fits.
It just seems to be marked just too perfectly for something about 35 km long, so there's something fishy going on with it. I would like to believe it's just some sort of farm, but even then farms do not require such fine precision on their zoning.

Maybe China found a load of oil? V:v:V
The second one is deffo some kind of bomb test.
But that grid one, that is INSANE.
