Before steam bundles were a thing, this was the most affordable thing I bought
Man, that was not a very good trailer. Pacing and music is just all off
I remember getting the PS3 version of the Orange Box which was probably the worst version to get (looooooong load times and laggy parts). it was still great, I must have played through the commentary dozens of times, I found it so fascinating.
Despite being "not as good as it used to be" I still think Team Fortress 2 holds up really well. I lost interest in Overwatch after 6 months but still play TF2 quite frequently and never feel too burnt out.
Calling the orange box a good deal was a hell of an understatement, to get HL2, Ep1, Ep2, TF2, AND Portal all in one package was nuts.
Reminds me that I'd like to see a classic TF2 mode. Original weapons, no hats etc.

Couple years ago some mod was going on in the TF2 subsection trying to do this, though I guess that's kinda gone now. :pudge:
In two months the orange box will be 10 years old.
Where did all that time go?

It never died officially but it went in a direction not everyone agreed with, like incorporating TFC stuff.
One of the devs, UserNotFound, had a lot of problems and ended up permabanning himself because of said problems. Development kinda stalled after that.

Team Fortress 2 Vintage, look it up on ModDB.
Not that many people playing since it's relatively new, but that's kind of why more and more people should check it out.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.
:downs:

Yet there was a huuuge outrage of people because they were "forced" to buy the games as well in the package even if they were just interested in one or two. Or that old games were included.

I never really understood that sentiment. I had physical copies of HL2 and Ep1 from before the Orange Box, and even just for Ep2, TF2 and Portal it was great value.
Ya, gotta agree with the above posters that the 'official' long trailer isn't paced that well...
I always preferred the Orange Box TV spot:

TF2 Classic was trying to do this but it's bloated with OC and custom stuff - there's another mod called TF2 Vintage that's trying to do just what you said

Funny tho, TF2V stole pretty much everything from the TF2C mod.
undeniably, the orange box was THE BEST deal that consumers have ever gotten in the history of gaming
a group of the best-in-genre games, all in one place, all sold for 30 quid or lower (if I remember correctly)
undeniably, the orange box was THE BEST deal that consumers have ever gotten in the history of gaming
i dont know about that there's some pretty good deals out there sometimes
I remember having to buy The Orange Box on 360 first because my PC was too shitty to handle any of the games at the time.
TF2 on 360 / PS3 was barely touched after launch, so it's as vanilla as you can get without mods.

Yeah but valve's attitude at this point is pretty much "you think you want it, but you don't"

Why you gotta do this to me man.

That's the music / trailer style (Reversing the whole thing) from the Dead Island right?
edit: Also, sweet jesus that was good.
Valve at their finest. I miss this era.

The games and music are good enough in and of themselves to make a memorable trailer.
The Orange Box was what got me on to Steam, I think it was like 2 weeks later I got CSS then 6 months later a PC that could run the stuff above 30fps on low.
I've bought this game like 10-15 times over between lan parties and copies for my dad and my xbox and whatnot. What a deal, even at full price honestly.

I picked up both 360 and PS3 versions over the years just for the heck of it. 360 is the one to play since they actually did give it a few bugfixes and feature additions (like being able to set class limits). I got XBL again for a while last year and I revisited it. It's still pretty good, and people still play it. You just have to hope nobody decides to ruin the fun and use any map exploits, though.
The PS3 version was run by EA and only got one single minor bugfix patch and that was it. It still has shitloads of bugs and sv_cheats is still set to 1, so you can modify your controller profile to bind console commands to buttons and do awful stuff. One of the last times I tried to play, I hopped into a 2fort match where an enemy Spy was backstabbing everyone in my team's spawn. I managed to slip out only to find that someone ent_removed both intelligence cases. The game was stuck on an infinite loop. :v:
What's probably most amazing about the PS3 version is that it uses dedicated servers, and EA is still running servers for it, ten years later. I think they're only down to like two servers now, but I can't believe EA still bothers.

Also, who here still has the actual Orange Box?

I remember seeing this ad and begging my parents for a PC for my 14th birthday so I could play Portal. Goddamn, I'm 23 now, how time flies.
