UPDATE: If you saw this thread two days ago and are wondering why it's back, that's because they're back out on the streets again for 17 February, marking the true start of Libya's revolution. These celebrations are even larger than before.
The celebrations have all been organised by private citizens rather than the government, as the government says they're better that way.
Several groups had been planning protests today to call for things such as better security and more decentralisation, but almost all of them have been cancelled at the last minute to avoid any chance of violence. There had been security fears but so far nothing untoward has happened.
Low-level celebrations have been ongoing for days but will peak today, marking the start of major protests, and the 17th, marking the "Day of Rage" on which Gaddafi's security forces opened fire and the Battle of Benghazi began.

Time flies.

I remember it to be around 8 months ago!
...somebody give me a calendar, I gotta sign shit up or else.
Man it feels like its been 3 years.
2 years? I feel like I was only discussing Gaddafi bombing protesters a few months ago.
Daaamn and i think a week is too damn long
jesus it doesn't seem that long ago
i was like 7 years old when it happened
Some little girl is leading the crowd's chants :3 she's standing on a box to reach the mic
Good day to be a Libyan, I guess.
Can't be two years already, title must be wrong.
iirc it started two years ago, not ended.
Anywho, remember we've been hearing about syria and other similar situations since then, so it's not live we've had a break and it seems closer as a result
Watching this warms my heart :3
its good to see Libya with a new government and freedom
wasn't there a post about this like a few days ago

They're back out on the streets again today to mark 17 February, the Day of Rage which marked the true beginning of the revolution. Both the streams in the OP are covering it again.
Many government officials including Prime Minister Ali Zeidan are in Benghazi today for the celebrations. Thousands of people were out at midnight, and set off tons of fireworks when the clock ticked round to the 17th.
Even Libya's passion for ice cream is evident:
“In all Qaddafi’s 42 years he spent millions of pounds trying to make people celebrate for him but it never worked”, said one observer. “Now people are reaching into their own pockets and throwing the biggest party the country has ever seen.”
It looks as if they just won it all over again. Good on them, I foresee this is a big national holiday of theirs for quite a while.
I think this is some street art or something, I found it a few days ago. Libya dreams big
