Great Barrier Reef's health status now officially in "poor" status
The health of the Great Barrier Reef has dropped from moderate to poor, a new government report card shows.
The federal government's long-awaited Great Barrier Reef 2011 report card was released on Wednesday and the news is not good.
Seagrass is in very poor condition, and cover has continued to decline since 2006-07.
The report says the 2010-11 natural disasters "significantly impacted" on the marine environment, and caused more sediment to be discharged from rivers, especially from the Fitzroy and Proserpine rivers.
The report said surveys indicated Cyclone Yasi caused 15 per cent of the total reef area to suffer some coral damage.
Full recovery will take decades, it said.
Good thing I got to scuba there before its all gone.
I'm assuming the fact they say recovery will take decades means that it at least WILL recover? If it isn't damaged by further incidents, that is.
Phyew, good thing Proj3ct_ZeRo scuba'd there before it's all gone
sad...
Sure is a good thing Proj3ct_ZeRo scubaed there before it's all gone. Everything will be alright guys.

OvB, we need your advanced knowledge on this subject.
Now that Proj3ct_ZeRo scuba'd there, we can all rest easy.

yeah man we totally needed that constructive reply huh
yeah man we totally needed that constructive reply huh
Yeah because your post is totally going to save the reef.
Fucking Proj3ct_ZeRo probably did something to the reef when he scuba'd there and now it's broken
im crying
i think i read somewhere where there is a type of fast growing coral that could be used to help fix some of the damage of ocean acidification, the problem is its too damn hot and the PH is too damn low

found it
I'm glad everyone is assured that Proj3ct_ZeRo is gonna go scuba at the reef, I was scared no one gave a fuck
It's too late to save it really. I mean, unless you put an immediate end to coal power, pollution, etc by tomorrow morning.
Fucking Proj3ct_ZeRo probably did something to the reef when he scuba'd there and now it's broken
Break his fucking kneecaps, maybe it'll make the Reef feel better.
If I make a Proj3ct_ZeRo reference, I'll be cool and funny. Right guys? Your posts are just as meaningless as his.
Honestly, I don't think anything will be done until there's almost nothing remaining.
Isn't there also a giant mutant starfish that fucking eats the coral?
Break his fucking kneecaps, maybe it'll make the Reef feel better.
If it does like broken kneecaps, maybe you've found the cure? I wonder if its picky about whos kneecaps though.

i doubt, since the worse the reef gets the less incentive there will be for people to maintain it

Crown-of-thorns starfish, some areas experience up to 100~x the normal amount. They usually aren't populous but chemical runoff from farms made them buff up + breed like fucking rabbits.
The problem is that Australian politicians are too busy brown nosing each other or bickering like old women in retirement villages.
So nothing happens.

Not if the health continues to decline.

That might be part of it, but even the article itself says that the massive natural disasters in 2010-2011 made a big impact on the reef. This kind of thing is a result of many factors coming together; we can't blame it all on one person or group.

So it's being destroyed by mutant star fish? wtf

I'm not sure how much the government can do about cyclones and floodings; well, apart from helping fight global warming.
Can we be certain that Proj3ct_ZeRo did in fact scuba at the Great Barrier Reef before it's all gone? Do we have any verifiable evidence of this event occurring? How can we be so relieved when we're not even entirely sure if he did, in fact, scuba there?
Why are you guys all jumping on Proj3ct_ZeRo? He didn't say or do anything wrong, you guys are just being cunts.
