Medley sustained the terrible injuries only days before his wife Katie was due to give birth to a baby boy they plan to name Hugo. She now joins him in the same hospital — just one floor away — where she was set to be induced. But even if Caleb makes a full recovery and meets his son, what happened late Friday evening at the movie theater could ruin the young family’s finances. Caleb doesn’t have health insurance, and his medical bills could amount to $2 million, according to his family. Longtime friend Michael West has created a website to raise money for Caleb, who has been an aspiring stand-up comedian since the eighth grade. “He needs to get better because he needs to be a dad,” West said. According to the website, Caleb performed in Denver’s biggest stand-up contest at the Comedy Works on July 18, advancing to the next round. The next night, Caleb and Katie decided to treat themselves to the midnight movie before the couple “officially” became parents. In addition to the fundraising website, friends have set up a Facebook page dedicated to Caleb’s full recovery. Caleb’s life will be forever altered by this unexpected and horrific event, a constant fear of many uninsured Americans. The Affordable Care Act — much of which will not be fully implemented until 2014 — extends health insurance to millions of uninsured Americans like Caleb.
Source Hey USA, how's that fear of socialism going? Still healthy, I hope?
america.
He has a fucking child for christ sake, I swear anything that's attempted murder should be paid for by government.
The GOP supports this by trying to do away with Obamacare.
Man does that fucking suck. All the kit the guy used when he shot up the place was probably about a 1000th of that cost. Could start a Kickstarter to help.
The GOP supports this by trying to do away with Obamacare.
USA, where it's easier to get a gun that it is to get a mammogram or have an appendectomy.
Man does that fucking suck. All the kit the guy used when he shot up the place was probably about a 1000th of that cost. How is this even a thing? God health care in this country is fucking STUPID. I find it funny people want to destroy Obamacare even though there are INSANE hospital bills like this for uninsured people.
He has a fucking child for christ sake, I swear anything that's attempted murder should be paid for by government.
No, it should be paid by the shooter. He'll be in prison for the rest of his life anyways, drain him dry.
simply don't pay it. What are they gonna do? Undo all the work?
simply don't pay it. What are they gonna do? Undo all the work?
I suppose you can be jailed, as you're technically stealing money. Not a US lawyer here, but that's my safest bet...
USA, where it's easier to get a gun that it is to get a mammogram or have an appendectomy.
Is that an attack on health-care in America or an attack on guns? If the former, I understand, if the latter, you're being dumb, if both, you're being sorta reasonable.
No, it should be paid by the shooter.
Even if the shooter has a likely illness when he most likely has no idea what he's doing half the time? It's the governments job to protect the citizens and help them recover.
Even if the shooter has a likely illness when he most likely has no idea what he's doing half the time? It's the governments job to protect the citizens and help them recover.
Sure, I can dye my hair too and make silly facial expressions in public too, even plead insanity. But the fact is he killed and hurt dozens of people. It's not the governments job to keep people healthy.
I hope a kickstarter or something similar is former so he can get treated. Poor guy.
I suppose you can be jailed, as you're technically stealing money. Not a US lawyer here, but that's my safest bet...
I'd rather be jailed, in debt and healthy instead of dead.
Sure, I can dye my hair too and make silly facial expressions in public too, even plead insanity. But the fact is he killed and hurt dozens of people. It's not the governments job to keep people healthy.
so, the government(who are meant to care for their citizens lest we forget) are not meant to keep said citizens healthy? you're a goddamn eejit
Oh man, what the fuck? That surely sucks. All he did was going to a cinema, got shot and now has to face 2 million bucks? How should he be able to pay such a sum back?
"haha not my problem, why should i have to pay for medical bills that are for someone i never met, go to hell obongo-care" ^republican logic
so, the government(who are meant to care for their citizens lest we forget) are not meant to keep said citizens healthy? you're a goddamn eejit
devil's advocate for a moment: no, the govt is meant to provide law and order and protect borders from foreign incursion. everything else can theoretically be delegated to the private sector
Sure, I can dye my hair too and make silly facial expressions in public too, even plead insanity. But the fact is he killed and hurt dozens of people. It's not the governments job to keep people healthy.
Let's disband the military and police force, and shut down government funded institutions of any kind related to the well-being of people. After all, that shit isn't the government's job, right? [editline]24th July 2012[/editline]
devil's advocate for a moment: no, the govt is meant to provide law and order and protect borders from foreign incursion. everything else can theoretically be delegated to the private sector
But this is often a terrible, terrible idea, as this article does a good job of showing.
Have Warner Bros supported in any way yet/will they?
Sure, I can dye my hair too and make silly facial expressions in public too, even plead insanity. But the fact is he killed and hurt dozens of people. It's not the governments job to keep people healthy.
No, it isn't. It's the State level's job :v:
devil's advocate for a moment: no, the govt is meant to provide law and order and protect borders from foreign incursion. everything else can theoretically be delegated to the private sector
so if a man is totally wacko-jacko bonkers off his head, it's up to him to cure himself? that's fucking primeval logic and you know it, i thought you were smarter than this.
Sure, I can dye my hair too and make silly facial expressions in public too, even plead insanity. But the fact is he killed and hurt dozens of people. It's not the governments job to keep people healthy.
Mental disorders are more common than you think. It doesn't matter if he dyed his hair, he showed signs of it, if you watched a video of his science art you'd see that he is a happy guy, he's intelligent, and here's a quote "He breezed through high school and college, taking a strong interest in science and graduating with honors from the University of California, Riverside." Someone with the intelligence of him wouldn't waste his life like that.
Let's disband the military and police force, and shut down government funded institutions of any kind related to the well-being of people. After all, that shit isn't the government's job, right? [editline]24th July 2012[/editline] But this is often a terrible, terrible idea, as this article does a good job of showing.
Those are actually government functions, you're dumb.
Remember guys, universal healthcare is bad!
so, the government(who are meant to care for their citizens lest we forget) are not meant to keep said citizens healthy? you're a goddamn eejit
Couldn't you use the same argument to justify nanny-state stuff like forcing all cars to have breathalyzers or banning the sales of soda in containers above a certain size or etc? I don't disagree that the government should be helping it's citizens, but I think we need to be careful in clarifying what role it's supposed to fulfill.
devil's advocate for a moment: no, the govt is meant to provide law and order and protect borders from foreign incursion. everything else can theoretically be delegated to the private sector
Only in the opinion of libertarian scum.
I hope a kickstarter or something similar is former so he can get treated. Poor guy.
Well, yeah. You could start a kickstarter but I doubt that it'll hit 2 million $...
