It's no longer fiction.... Scientists have been able to reconstruct images from thoughts alone. You may have seen this in the popular TV Show "House, MD" in the last episode. It's kinda neat though, it may give neuroscientists a view into insane people's minds, and what goes on in them. It may also have an application in verifying the insanity defence, and such. But... It may also give away our darkest secrets. It could totally invade our privacy (given you being forced into an expensive fMRI machine :P) I think it's pretty cool, and when I first saw it on House, I wondered if I was watching science fiction.... but it's real! Read the article (I read it in the magazine, but it should be exactly the same): http://www.popsci.com/scitech/article/2009-06/mind-reading-tech-way Didn't want to? Ok: fMRI scans your brain whilst looking at 1000s of images flashing. It takes a 3D image consisting of voxels. When you think of a memory, certain neurons fire that store that memory+associated senses, the computer compares it to the thousands of results, and generates(not copy/pastes) an image. It will be void of any real detail, but the quality is improving.
:science::dance:
I hope something worthwhile comes of this during my lifetime.
This scares me.
Who needs all this fancy stuff when you have psychic people like me?
Private thoughts should never ever be violated. I know it's for the advancement of science and shit, but pretty soon nobody will be able to get along because they'll begin marketing to everyone and trust will just be fucking non-existent. This is a bad idea.
Who needs all this fancy stuff when you have psychic people like me?
I'm glad to see it's also driving people clinically insane.
Posted 06.12.2009 at 5:15 pm But yeah it's pretty cool, but no thank you I don't want to commit thought crime.
Psychic powers don't exist.
Psychic powers don't exist.
They do in my head.
While this might help science and all, I would like my thoughts to remain private. There are some things I would prefer to take to the grave.
imagine, a reversal machine of this kind could "mount" fake memory..or even better, mount KNOWLEDGE into one's head... ok i'm goin' too far. fascinating.
While this might help science and all, I would like my thoughts to remain private. There are some things I would prefer to take to the grave.
I sincerely doubt anyone is going to be forced into this
make it like that film with mel gibson where he can only hear womens thoughts
Looks like 7 people read the title, gave boxes, and left. If there is a way to monitor brain usage, then at some point it could be translated. "Mind reading" is a really cliche way to describe it, though.

Before you know it, government will develop technology in order to read the populations minds :ohdear:
