• They called me mad - GTA style steampunk game looking for artists

To clear up the inevitable "Pshh, you're just the ideas guy go away", no, i'm not the ideas guy. Im writing it myself in c++ with sfml. Anyway, on to the content. We are looking for people who would be willing (for free i'm afraid) to help us with this project, in the art department. To sum up quickly why we need art: :ohdear: For a short overview: "The game is set either in Tolkienesque fantasy world (as an affectionate parody) or an alternate history Europe. And the future is here! Steam is on the rise! Science marches on! New discoveries are made every day! What's better, you land right in a middle of it all. As an aspiring mad genius, you set out to claim the Bolt Island - a focal point of many trade routes and home to a famous university. What happens then is predictable. You jack steam-powered cars ('scuse me chap, but I'll need to forcibly procure your vessel!), fly on a blimps, shoot people, engineer crazy inventions on the spot, and do whatever it takes to become ruler of the island. Gameplay will probably be open-world action with a bit of RPG mixed in. It will be in top-down view, as was first GTA. You can use your mouse wheel to regulate zoom. If you steal an air vehicle, you will be able to see more and more of a world as you fly up." We have a forum down here ( http://z6.invisionfree.com/GrandTheftLocomobile/index.php?act=idx ) so if you want to know more about the game, have a poke around there. It was originally called "Grand Theft Locomobile", hence the title, but it has since been renamed to "They called me mad" Anyway, i hope this interests you, and send me a pm/post in the thread if you would like to help :buddy:
Interesting I'll give it a shot
Interesting. You should probably provide a little more info like art style and what not and maybe a video showing what you have done. I know you have weapon switching down from ready WAYWO.
Interesting I'll give it a shot
Sign up for the forums and have a look around. Most of the plotting is done on skype though
This is a "Game Maker" game right (can sort of tell by the weird artifacts on the rotated sprite)? In my observations, most of these never get past the "I need sprites" phase. Why don't you just make the game with placeholder sprites, show that it is good and playable, and then get an artist. Nothing against Game Maker. It has proven itself to be powerful in the right hands (Derek Yu for example). There are so many threads on the GMC asking for ideas for weapons, guns, vehicles, plots etc for their awesome new game. Judging by the forum you've set up, this is no different. Make the game, then worry about the specifics. Get a functional prototype up with red boxes as cars, blue boxes as NPC's or whatever. Of course, if this is not GM then you can probably ignore this - although I still think a prototype is important in securing your artist - showing them that your idea is actually real, you have the skill to do it and see it through to completion.
I am free for the taking.

I'll make a logo or something, but that's all. Check my portfolio and contact me if interested. http://tribenine.org/
I know a bit of pixel-art, if that's the style you're looking for. I think you should show us a demo of the game so far or something.

Especially to mop up that person who thinks i'm making it using gamemaker [editline]23rd June 2011[/editline]
This is a "Game Maker" game right (can sort of tell by the weird artifacts on the rotated sprite)?
Just a tip, artifacts on the rotated sprites are called aliasing, its a common problem in computer graphics, especially this sort of circular rotation. I've actually implemented AA now, and ill make a short vid detailing exactly what i have so far. I don't have a lot of video editing skills though :smith: Edit: One free video, title is outdated because its just a placeholder, as are the buttons. Pretty soon, im going to implement some (extremely nice) sound effects, then stabbing weapons, particle effects (death), then guns Edit 2: If you do actually want to help, the best thing to do would be to make a post in the forums. They look a little inactive, but i check them fairly often. Then i can add you to the skype we have going, if you decide you want to help
I don't understand. What did I just watch?
Its basically a short clip showing what is currently functional Left clicking swings your weapon around, mouse wheel scrolls between various weapons in your backpack, npcs have health and take damage, and you also have health yourself Also, just added ninja-sword unsheathing sound effects, sounds awesome
