It says they started human testing. Most of the might-be cures you heard about here didn't (I believe) so that's certainly a step forward

You know that developing a cure takes a lot of time, right? Every time a small discovery which can lead to a cure is made, it is news. Even if it's purely theoretical.

The main reason cures fall into obscurity is becase minor hitches in the testing stages, be it on animals or humans can hinder or flat out stop all production on it.
Tabloid newspapers usually aren't good sources for this kind of news
