In addition to a UI overhaul that brings the look and feel of the Paint app into more modern times and of a similar vision as other UWP apps like Mail and Calendar, the refurbished image editor is also supposed to bring a major improvement: 3D support

A launch video notes that the new "Paint Preview" app includes all the familiar features of the regular version of Paint, but Microsoft is adding in 3D object support — an ideal addition for HoloLens. Paint Preview users will be able to create 3D objects, and annotate them freely. Microsoft has a range of markers and art tools to help artists create objects, and brushes that can be used directly on 3D objects. All of the tools appear to be pen- and touch-friendly, with an interface that mixes 3D models, 2D images, stickers, and community tools for 3D content. The timing of the Paint videos come just hours after Microsoft revealed it's planning to hold a special event in New York City later this month.
This was hinted back in may The video which has now been published delves a lot more information about what's changing Honestly I use mspaint every so often, so I hope the legacy application remains part of the windows operating system. Death to 3D builder https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-is-redesigning-its-legacy-paint-app-as-a-windows-10-app-with-new-ui-and-3d-support http://www.theverge.com/2016/10/7/13207612/microsoft-paint-windows-10-app
This will the sole reason to upgrade to Windows 10. A new version of paint. Now add in a new pinball game, and there shall be no excuse to stay behind
3D builder serves a completely different purpose than this Paint, it's mostly used for 3D printing
I guess we'll see their plans in October
So i guess an even more glorious day for us Win 10 users, its actually pretty cool that we can now make our monstrosities in 3D, now we can face the terror in all dimensions! Then again that's if schools even have Windows 10 at all, otherwise it would be disappointing having to save it for after school.. :pcrepair:
This is cool and all, but the "painted" models give me a very Cool 3D World vibe, and I don't like it.

I hope it does layers.

So many 3D dicks to be made. So many.
It's really odd to add in 3D functionality to paint. I always saw paint as very bare bones and not even a stepping stone for anyone interested in digital art design. It seems to me that anyone with an interest in drawing in 3D is going to seek out a more capable program.
I think it'd be cool to have a decently-powerful image editing program built into Windows.

Putting 3d into basic tools I guess is what they would consider progression into where 3d environments are seen more fundamental
all i ever wanted from paint was layers please
I like paint as is because of how fast it is the load to matter what's running. I've used it a ton of times copying over what's in print screen's cache and writing a note.
if i want to do something good i'll use photoshop, but if i want to do something quick then i'd really prefer mspaint the way it was in xp
I like how paint is on Windows 7 It's just the right amount of shitty
I prefer the Windows 10 (and maybe 8?) one where you can hide the ribbon and the gradients are gone but is functionally the same. But Microsoft are retarded and they will probably remove it eventually so I guess it's time to make backups.
I feel like they should have done layers before 3D models. But progress is progress I guess.
I'd be on board with this if it meant they came out with a good program, but I doubt it'll even be on par with Paint.NET.
The classic paint was excellent for pixel art. The fact that every brush was 100% solid color made them useful for covering large areas easily. It took me a while to learn all of the gimp key bindings to do things that were just mouse2 on paint. It was simple, that made it good for beginners.

I usually just grab paint.net every time I reinstall Windows. It's basically photoshop lite, has enough functionality that I usually don't need to get PS.
I usually just grab paint.net every time I reinstall Windows. Is there a way to backup the current Paint program to have both the UWP program and the good ol one?
I really want to play around with the 3D function.
Photoshop still destroys it.
Photoshop still destroys it.
It's not meant to replace photoshop lol maybe it will for people who just want to make shitty memes and other small stuff, but they also already had paint.net and gimp.
It doesn't look half bad honestly. For a free app it seems to do an alright job. Now watch as someone is going to suggest something else that is free and does it even better and i am going to look like an idiot :V

An updated paint is cool, but like everyone said, I hope it has layers. I'm still pissed that I lost Windows DVD maker on my forced upgrade to windows 10. It was the easiest DVD maker I had used. Drag and drop then add a really nice menu. Any 3rd party dvd maker i find online sucks or is full of ads.
