Attention:
Have a favorite sport? MMA/basketball/baseball/cricket/rugby/racing/lacrosse/whatever? Make a thread about it! Enough threads and hopefully garry creates a subforum for ~SPORTS DISCUSSION~ Welcome to the goddamn MLS This is America (and Canada's) highest level of the sport of association football, or as we like to call it, soccer. The league is still relatively young, but it's picking up steam and is relatively stable now. This season was the first since I believe it started that no teams folded or relocated. There are currently 19 teams that will play 34 games in the regular season, from March through December, after which 10 teams will advance to the playoffs for the chance to compete for the
MLS Cup.
Nobody really cares about the MLS Cup though, the Cascadia Cup is where it's really at
The shitty-ass teams
EASTERN CONFERENCE _________________________________ Chicago Fire [img]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/84/Chicago_Fire_Soccer_Club.svg/200px-Chicago_Fire_Soccer_Club.svg.png[/img] Columbus Crew D.C.
im a big soccer fan and do not care about MLS. WORLD Cup baby
oh it's alright guys nevermind big soccer fans don't care about MLS i must have been mistaken
im a big soccer fan and do not care about MLS. WORLD Cup baby
such a big fan you only care about a competition that comes once every four years
Is there any difference between soccer and European football?
we should just have a general football/soccer thread
Is there any difference between soccer and European football?
I ain't American, but I think they're identical. The only difference is how they call it. But (correct me if I'm wrong) they have drafts, which is I believe, quite unusual in football / soccer. (like NHL, NBA and generally every other major league in the US)
Is there any difference between soccer and European football?
No, the sport is really called association football, and the term soccer derives from the "soc" in association football. They're the same sport.
I ain't American, but I think they're identical. The only difference is how they call it. [editline]20th March 2013[/editline]
we should just have a general football/soccer thread
There are way too many leagues around the world, having one thread for them all would fill up too quickly and it would be difficult to discuss one league. I highly recommend creating a thread for whatever league(s) you do watch though, because if we have enough sports threads in GD we might get a subforum for sports.
NEW ENGLAND REPRESENT! [sub][sub][sub]we're terrible[/sub][/sub][/sub]
I'm so embarrassed to be a Red Bulls fan, I really am. But I guess wouldn't be a a real fan either if I just liked them for winning.

so create one? MLS will be here though, because I want to be able to find discussion and information relevant to the league I actually watch, not the English Premier League and not the Bundeslige.
Results of the weekend's matches: San Jose 1-0 Seattle Los Angeles 1-0 Colorado Houston 2-1 Vancouver Dallas 2-0 Salt Lake Montreal 1-0 New York New England 0-0 Kansas City DC 1-2 Columbus Chicago 1-4 Chivas USA Montreal Impact is 4-0 so far atop the eastern conference, Dallas leads the western conference at 3-0-1
The New England game must have been boring as fuck to watch.
LA galaxy has Beckham. /thread
LA galaxy has Beckham. /thread
Um, no they don't. The thread continues.
Um, no they don't. The thread continues.
I thought he was playing for them? What happened?
He did, but he announced last season would be his last with Galaxy, and it was. He's not even that good anymore anyway. He's better than most MLS players, but he's a shell of himself.

Don't feel bad for supporting Red Bulls. They have Henry, who is the only important player anywhere ever.
Don't feel bad for supporting Red Bulls. They have Henry, who is the only important player anywhere ever.
More like they have Timmy Cahill, greatest head of the ball in soccer history.
Is it worth it to go to an MLS game? I'm not really a fan of soccer, but I only live about 30 minutes away from RSL's stadium and from what I hear RSL is pretty good.
sporting events of any kind are always fun to go to, and MLS tickets are pretty cheap. you should give a game a try, RSL is pretty good, so it should be entertaining.
Football in MLS is okay but I just don't like the lack of relegation.
Football in MLS is okay but I just don't like the lack of relegation.
Hard to relegate when there's really no league to relegate to. Plus that's just the way American sports are. Relegation isn't a thing. In fact the worst teams are awarded a chance to get better with earlier draft picks and such.
I haven't really followed the MLS being a brit, but does this actually keep the MLS more competitive?
It's the same system every American sport uses, and yes. Usually there's a pretty good turnover rate in the playoffs each year, and some teams can sit in the gutter for years, but that's usually due to bad management. If teams draft smart, they can turn a crappy squad around in just a couple years. Likewise, if a team that's normally very good loses a couple key players and makes poor choices trying to replace them, they can quickly find themselves at the bottom of the standings. Edit: of course, none of it matters too much when one team has a ton of money, the best American soccer player, and David Beckham. luckily Beckham left LA Galaxy and Donovan took a short break for soccer so if there's any season that will be really competitive, it's this one
Timbers vs Dynamo about to start so hype cant wait for another tie woo gotta love the single points edit: they fucking won
