Romero is such a cool guy.
This is part 1 of a 10-parts episode, btw.
Fuck yes, Chocolate doom! Great choice. IGN also made a playtrough of Doom with John, if someone's interested:

I imagine myself doing the same thing if I was in that instance, because for some people it would be somewhat the equivalent of a nintendo fan playing Mario with Shigeru Miyamoto. You could truly tell that guy knew a whole lot about Doom, and John Romero is still kind of regarded as one of the best mappers for Doom, because of how well Episode 1 holds up, and how influential it was to so many developers and modders in the PC gaming community.
I like how he was kind of making a statement on what mapping is like in modern games today for the most part. In Doom, the mapper really had a whole ton of freedom to put his mark and style in it, and it would really show through if you played a lot of their maps. Mapping back then was just much more of an artform in a sense beyond visual. Personally, I feel as if that is one of the main reasons I don't really like that many games today at least in the action or FPS genre, the environments your characters are put in are a whole lot less interesting and open on a gameplay perspective.
