A while ago, we've announced our plans to add Linux support as one of the features of our digital platform, with 100 games on the launch day sometime this fall. We've put much time and effort into this project and now we've found ourselves with over 50 titles, classic and new, prepared for distribution, site infrastructure ready, support team trained and standing by, and absolutely no reason to wait until October or November. We're still aiming to have at least 100 Linux games in the coming months, but we've decided not to delay the launch just for the sake of having a nice-looking number to show off to the press. It's not about them, after all, it's about you. So, one of the most popular site feature requests on our community wishlist is granted today: Linux support has officially arrived on GOG.com! This'll be good for the linux gaming community. Hopefully one day, everyone will switch over...
If you think proprietary software is good for GNU/Linux then you should not be using it.
GOG doesn't use DRM, that's their big selling point.
GOG doesn't use DRM, that's their big selling point.
It's still proprietary software. But let's be realistic here, Stallman's libre software wonderland really isn't feasible in the real world.
It's still proprietary software. But let's be realistic here, Stallman's libre software wonderland really isn't feasible in the real world.
I got my terms mixed up, shit. At least it's not as restrictive as Steam which was the only alternative.
If you think proprietary software is good for GNU/Linux then you should not be using it.
fuck off that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Didn't know I had to go full richard stallman to use linux
If you think proprietary software is good for GNU/Linux then you should not be using it.
Just because someone uses linux does not mean they should indulge in the whole OS/License politics. More software for linux is good, no matter what sort of license they come with.
It's still proprietary software. But let's be realistic here, Stallman's libre software wonderland really isn't feasible in the real world.
GoG doesn't have any software associated with it except by user choice. You literally get a fucking DRM free .exe file or respective for the OS if supported when you buy from them. the GoG client is 100% optional. [editline]25th July 2014[/editline]
"Supports Linux" or "Supports the latest version of Ubuntu and if you happen to use a decent distro then fuck you"?
I like mint.

Maybe you should look up what proprietary software means before rating me dumb and and replying with things that has nothing to do with proprietary software :v:

Because that's a whole new level of stupid. Otherwise, the client is 100% fucking optional, it has zero impact on you if you don't use it, proprietary or not. I honestly don't know what you're bitching about if it isn't the GoG client. Edit: turns out I was wrong. See below. Sorry RautaPalli for the misunderstanding.

I even said that expecting all software on GNU/Linux to be libre is totally unrealistic (in my opinion anyway).

It's stupid to think that all software for a platform should be free for any reason. Programmers gotta eat somehow.
This is fantastic news. With Valve already pouring money into it, it was only a matter of time until GoG did so! Wonderful.
Good. Little reason not to considering most of their older titles run through dosbox.
I use Fedora, and Steam is pretty shitty with Gnome 3. Its been built for Unity and nothing but Unity.
Works fine on Cinnamon.
I use Fedora, and Steam is pretty shitty with Gnome 3. Its been built for Unity and nothing but Unity.
Can confirm it's working perfectly fine on Mint 16 MATE x64. [editline]25th July 2014[/editline]
The right click context menu keeps floating away from my mouse, and the dock integration is crap.
The only issue I have is the right click menu in my notification bar, it's quite slow at opening, though it was when I used Steam for Linux on Ubuntu in Unity too.
