It is the only film in history to reach this milestone. In addition, on Saturday (53rd day of global release), Star Wars: The Force Awakens is expected to reach the $2 billion mark worldwide, becoming only the third film ever to do so and just the second to do it in original release. “This is a historic moment for Star Wars, for Lucasfilm, and for Disney, and all of us here are extremely gratified to be a part of this journey with fans around the world who have made Star Wars: The Force Awakens such an extraordinary success,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “The film’s achievements are truly astounding, and it’s our great honor to relaunch this cinematic galaxy not only for all the devoted decades-long fans but for a new generation who will keep the Star Wars legacy alive for many years to come.”

— Biggest domestic preview gross ($57 million) — Biggest opening day domestically ($119.1 million) — Biggest domestic second weekend ($149.2 million) — Biggest domestic third weekend ($90.2 million) — Biggest opening week domestically ($390.8 million) — Biggest opening weekend in 18 territories: U.K. (4-day), Australia, Russia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Austria, Poland (3-day), Denmark (5-day), Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, Ukraine, Iceland, Serbia, New Zealand — Fastest film to $1B globally (12 days) — Biggest film of all time in the U.S. and the U.K.
It was okay. Not really that good, just okay.
It was a lot like New Hope but regardless I thought it was pretty good
have they surpassed their marketing budget yet? :v:

The Force Awakens already technically beat Titanic. Titanic's total gross is calculated with the money it made when it was rereleased.
If Avatar, Jurassic World, and Force Awakens have taught me anything - you don't need a good movie to destroy the box office anymore. Just well-targeted trailers, a good name attached, and a massive marketing budget.
Thing is, the Force Awaken is a good movie.
eh i'd put them about on par with each other all three are retreads of earlier stuff with a few plot details changed [editline]6th February 2016[/editline] I think what's most impressive of all is that Titanic is around 15 years older than pretty much every other movie on the top 10 highest grossing list and is still holding on to 2nd place

I thought it was a great movie
It was a great movie, definitely tried to be much more than just a marketing gimmick, but it still was held to huge standards. I think it did a fine job of not selling out.
Box office ain't shit. Just imagine how many tonnes of hookers and coke the disney execs are buying with that sweet sweet merchandise and franchising money
It was better than the prequel trilogy so as far as cash ins go, it wasn't disappointing. I went in expecting a Star Wars movie that was better than the prequels, and that's what I got. Nothing groundbreaking or anything. It just did what it wanted to do very well.
So with one movie, not counting the absolute whoring of the IP on everything you can buy from pots and pans to toys, they've made half of what they bought LucasArts for. Jesus
I think Force Awakens was just a stepping stone for the upcoming movies (just like A New Hope was). I have no doubt that the spin-offs and Episode 8 & 9 will be much more original and "fresh" than TFA, and might even surpass the OT. That being said, I really liked the movie, and you can tell JJ put good work into it.
eh i'd put them about on par with each other all three are retreads of earlier stuff with a few plot details changed
I want to watch the Jurassic World you saw, because there's no way it's on par with TFA.
