An Oxfordshire parliamentary candidate who was mocked in a YouTube video of Adolf Hitler has reported the website to police. The subtitled clip, taken from the film Downfall, portrays the German dictator ranting about Oxfordshire Conservatives. John Howell, the Conservative candidate for the Henley constituency, described the material as "defamatory". The video has since been taken down from YouTube. Mr Howell said: "The generation which fought in the Second World War would find it highly offensive and I don't see why they should be put through this. "It's outrageous that they fought for the right to hold free elections which is what this film derides." 'Legal action' Mr Howell was elected as MP for the south Oxfordshire constituency in 2008, winning a margin of 10,116 votes over the Liberal Democrats. He replaced Boris Johnson, who stood down after becoming the new mayor of London. Mr Howell said he had reported the video to Thames Valley Police Chief Constable Sara Thornton. A police spokesman said: "The chief constable is on leave. We will check whether she has received a complaint when she returns." The candidates standing for election so far in the Henley constituency are: Conservative: John Howell; Labour: Richard McKenzie; Liberal Democrat: Andrew Crick; British National Party: John Bews; UK Independence Party: Laurence Hughes; Green: Mark Stevenson.
Over reaction? Well I suppose its a good thing he ain't in my constituency, the spoppy sort. An 'in depth' report on the meme: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8617454.stm
Harr Harr. I've seen those hitler rants, you'll find them on every subject from delayed game release dates to politics. Wonder what crawled up his ass.
I love it when the internet makes news like this and they make deadly serious investigative reports about stuff like pedobear and over 9000.
I love it when the internet makes news like this and they make deadly serious investigative reports about stuff like pedobear and over 9000.
Well those poor innocent conservative children need protecting from the evils of the Intermemes.
So he's getting angry over one of this Hitler Downfall parodies. Joy.
Is there a link to the video?
Ugh, times like this makes me wanna throw a salt shaker at the silly people (y'gotta take the internets with a dose of salt). They shouldn't get so worked up over simple things like memes...
Is there a link to the video?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adKITY4N3UM (embedding is disabled :bahgawd:) They only refer to Howel at 1:43 and afterwards here and there, video focuses on Will Hamilton ranting about polling numbers and such.

Saving Private Ryan may offend some of the veterans. Let's also remove the second world war from history books as it could offend people. Don't worry everyone, I am not trying to censor an opposing political statement, I am censoring something I consider defamatory to my own ideals.
