(CNN) - An MSNBC host apologized Tuesday morning after she and panelists on her weekend program faced criticism for poking fun at a photo of Mitt Romney, his wife and their nearly two dozen grandchildren, zeroing in on the Romneys' recently adopted African-American grandchild, Kieran. "I am sorry. Without reservation or qualification. I apologize to the Romney family. #MHPapology," Melissa Harris-Perry wrote on Twitter. "As black child born into large white Mormon family I feel familiarity w/ Romney family pic & never meant to suggest otherwise." Harris-Perry has Mormon ancestors, and her mother graduated from Brigham Young University in Utah, where she wrote articles about Mormon womanhood, according to Religion Dispatches online magazine. Harris-Perry, herself, identifies as a Unitarian Universalist. "I apologize to all families built on loving transracial adoptions who feel I degraded their lives or choices," she continued, on Twitter. Asked Sunday to come up with captions for the photo as part of a game they were playing, one of panelists, actress Pia Glenn, started singing lines from the song popularized by Sesame Street: "One of These Things Is Not Like the Others." Another panelist, comedian Dean Obeidallah, said the picture "really sums up the diversity of the Republican Party." (Obeidallah appears frequently on CNN and writes a regular opinion column for CNN.com.) Harris-Perry described the baby as "gorgeous," before predicting Kieran would one day marry North West, the daughter of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. "Can you imagine Mitt Romney and Kanye West as in-laws?" Harris-Perry said, drawing laughs. MSNBC is even more of a joke than Fox News.
That's kind of low IMO even considering the hijinks they get up to on news channels these days. Politics is always a dirty thing at the best of times, but this is something else.
Harris-Perry described the baby as "gorgeous," before predicting Kieran would one day marry North West, the daughter of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.
Haha take that black people, she sure showed them
MSNBC is even more of a joke than Fox News.
now, now MSNBC didn't "assure children" that santa and jesus were white. lets not get ahead of ourselves here :v:
Haha take that black people, she sure showed them
the person that made this prediction was black herself so i don't think it was a racist remark
the person that made this prediction was black herself so i don't think it was a racist remark
"I can make racist remarks so long as I'm of the same race" Yeah that makes no sense.
the person that made this prediction was black herself so i don't think it was a racist remark
Just because you're part of a race doesn't make something not racist
most news networks are chalk full of terrible people but msnbc really has taken the prize lately. they're cunts lmao, guess their ratings are so low for a reason
That baby's fucking huge. He's almost as big as the little girl.
Its not even funny jokes. That's awful.
So Fox had a little racism scandal and now MSNBC has one. Nope, doesn't seem contrived at all.
Can't we all just agree that journalism as a whole is pretty shitty and move on?
Oh man... Wait until he finds out about that
yes all journalism is shit we should go on anecdotes and hearsay rather than reporting news
Journalism at its best would present the maximum amount of information with minimal bias, as well as being interesting enough for the average reader to take notice. However most major news networks seem to be focusing on the "interesting" factor too much, leading to sensationalism, thus sacrificing true information and lack of inherent bias. Note I never said "all of journalism/all journalists are shit". I said "journalism as a whole is shit". Which means that our current system is incredibly flawed and misleading, but there are still some gems who manage to do a good job. Personally I don't know if we can fix the whole mess, but we should sure as hell do our best to.
