...why don't they transform? I mean, sure they take the shape of a vehicle, but it seems like they're stuck with their first choice.
I mean, they have the power to transform into anything, why don't they adapt in the middle of the fight? They could be so much more powerful, almost to the extreme, but they're apparently just stuck in two shapes: the shape of a human and the first vehicle they encountered. Why?
Its just a cartoon.
Never saw them, that's why i thought there might be an explanation in the series. I just didn't think the author would be ignorant to the problem.. to me it's such an obvious limitation..
No, really, it is just a cartoon. A cartoon (or comic, I forget which came first) was released about objects that transform. There is NO real reason to this.
In short no one cares enough to find out.
Yeah, just a cartoon, same way how Superman gets stronger in sunlight but don't just fly off into the sun and get superduper powers (at least I think thats how it works).
If your looking for a probable reason, it may be energy consuming to transform or something.
They actually do alter while fighting.
Those random guns and blades n' shit that comes out of them while fighting? They transform to do that.

Good point, I didn't think of that.
But still, where would they get all the metal parts and stuff and and how would they turn them into the parts required and... oh forget it.
The total mass of the vehicle and the total mass of the robots don't come out right anyway
As for turning themselves into the parts they need; Nanobots!
I know a guy who got electrocuted by a real life transformer.
Think about it...
The most practical thing to be on this planet is a vehicle, so traveling is easy. What would an alien robot that transforms into a washing machine do for itself?

Clean clothes. It's also a brilliant disguise, no one would suspect a washing machine.
They actually can, if you watch the first movie, McKayla says bumblee is a crappy car, and he scan a Camero and he transforms into that.

I think this is regarding the cartoons, not the movies.
Fitting avatar for a question.

Also the Twins that gets 'upgraded' in the second movie.

We don't talk of the second movie

I forgot about that.. But they don't make any good use of it...

Dominator did that, it didn't really turn out too well for him.
