• Wife moved out, want to bachelorize my apartment...

In 2009, I caught my wife cheating. We decided to reconcile and work it out. In 2010, I caught her cheating again. Apparently she lied about who it actually was with the first time and continued it. All in all, she cheated 3-4 times (admittedly, it could've been more, who knows). Being the weak-minded faggot that I am, again I decided to work it out with her. In 2011 we had a kid (yes, it's mine). She's my world. She's my everything. The problem is, I was falling out of love with my wife, in large part due to the fact that she cheated. I simply couldn't look at her the same and it manifested in my not wanting to have sex with her as much. In 2012, my wife stopped sleeping in the same bed with me because, as she claims, we just got a new dog (old one died) and she didn't want to sleep in the same room as the dog (this never bothered her before). Fast forward to 8 months ago. I met a girl at work who is in the exact same situation as me, sans the cheating. She fell out of love (she doesn't think she was ever in love) and was looking for an escape subconsciously (as was I). We hit it off immediately. Before you know it, we're falling in love with each other. Fast forward to 6 weeks ago. My wife accused me of cheating as I hadn't slept with her in like 8 months. I admitted what was going on. She was devastated (I honestly am still awestruck as to how she didn't see this coming given what she did). Fast forward to 4 weeks ago. She moved out. Took almost everything she bought over the years with her and moved into the house we bought last year (I told her she can because she makes the mortgage payments as she runs a rather profitable business out of the house). She took my daughter, but we've compromised on joint custody so I still get her 3 nights per week. And that's where we stand. Before you guys offer condolences (I think), I'm not nearly as upset as it sounds because, to be honest, I've been falling out of love with her for the past 3 years. I only stuck around this long because (1) my daughter is my heart and soul, and (2) I simply wasn't strong enough to leave until I met this other girl. In hindsight, do I wish I left earlier? No. Why? Because my daughter is my life. If I left earlier, she wouldn't be here. That in itself makes the entire 13 year relationship (9 years married) worth it. My question to you . . . I want to bachelorize my apartment now that she's gone. I'm still sad sometimes and I get lonely when my daughter isn't there with me, but it gets easier every day and the new girl makes it a lot easier also. So I want to kinda make my apartment mine. For the last 10 years, my wife has been telling me what to do, where to do it, and pretty much just running (and bossing around) my life (she admitted the other day she knows she's bossy, but it is what it is). And me being the oversensitive, feeble-minded douche I was just stuck around until I realized I wasn't happy anymore and it wasn't what marriage should be. So yeah, what the hell should I add to my apartment to make it mine? It's a 2-bedroom. One of the bedrooms is used for an office-type room. This used to be my daughter's room and she still sleeps in there when she's with me, so I don't really want to touch this room as I simply have a bed and computer desk in it. The other bedroom has a dresser, a 37" TV on top, and a futon. The living room has 2 couches (one of the few things she didn't take) and a 51" TV on a small TV stand. I just bought a table for the kitchen. I have about $7K coming to me in the next few weeks (taxes and bonus) so I have some money to play around with (even though if the wife doesn't pay the mortgage, the house will go into foreclosure inevitably). So yeah, what should I do to make this place mine? I'm a die-hard Yankee fan, Michael Jordan fan (I named my daughter Jordyn, don't laugh) and Knicks fan.
fill it with things that you like, usually it sounds like you like sports so go from there
Yes, thanks General. I'm looking for specific ideas.
Are you a gamer? Do you have any hobbies? Do you have any neat items that could be hung up or placed on shelves in a neat display? Can you paint the apartment? I find posters are a pretty simple thing that can make a room feel more more like yours.
Get a showcase and fill it with sport's memorabilia. You could also dedicate an entire wall to it. Paint the wall blue with the yankees symbol in the middle. Turn your living room into the most cozy living room you can think of. Buy a nice big fluffy carpet (like this http://www.wovenonline.com/carpet-blog/picts/blog/soft_rug.jpg) Change the floor and walls so that there is no trace of your wife left, this way you can be happy in your own livingroom with the colours and textures you picked out yourself. I don't know what style you like so I can't look up furniture.
I can paint if I want, but I don't think the landlord would appreciate a big Yankee symbol in the middle of the wall. I can probably paint solid colors. A showcase with sports memorabilia is fine, but those kinds of things can be very expensive and while I do have some money, I don't want to go nuts. I bought an area carpet for the living room already, but it still looks kinda empty.
posters of anime girls with big boobs i don't wanna see any walls or ceilings visible
Get an engine short block and make a coffee table out of it. Ultimate bachelor furniture right there.
Get an engine short block and make a coffee table out of it. Ultimate bachelor furniture right there.
props if you do it with a V12 using the pistons on the four end cylinders as table supports.
Yeah, get into music, make a guitar wall And a V8 table, as suggested above Or this one
Depends what you like, but man get a hammock! Are you a practical working type? Set up some white boards, turn half the room into a DIY area? Pick up a set of chisels and learn carving? Then you could carve yourself some cool stuff or make a table for yourself. That's what I'd do anyway. For some better ideas get some friends in and a few beers and get them to throw suggestions at you, someone who knows you better will give better suggestions.
I really hate to suggest this, because I feel like I'm sacrificing a large degree of my manly ruggedness by doing so, but... have you scoped out Pinterest? There are actually a lot of very cool and easy DIY decorating things in there. I'm a big fan of reclaimed wood furniture, personally. Pallet desks, spool tables, etc, etc. [t]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iLeB1o-SVSI/UQIt5HLG8XI/AAAAAAAAAGY/T-bse8zkSss/s1600/pallet-coffee-tables%2B(3).JPG[/t] Stuff like that. Hell, even if that's not your style, you can get a lot of neat and uncomplicated ideas by browsing around the decorating and DIY sections of Pinterest.
Fill it with some nice stuff for you and your kid. I don't know, whatever you like. [editline]19th February 2014[/editline] As for me I share this house with my girlfriend and my niece. I've got my own little corner in my study. It's got all my neat stuff and some of my piping equipment.
what are your hobbies besides watching sports?
Is your avatar of you and your daughter?
I know how you feel OP. I got divorced and the dumb wife kicked her ass out. I had two kids with her though. The hardest thing for me to realize was that I could put shit WHEREVER I wanted. I was still putting dishes and stuff in the same stupid locations i disagreed with when she was here, till I remembered... hey wait a second, I can put these where I WANT THEM. It'll take a bit to hit you, even though you think it's easy. BUT ANYWAY - If you're about to get 7k, I wouldn't use too much towards the house. If the idea is a bachelor pad, you'll easily find comfort items to put in it - IE memorobillia, jerseys, etc... but if you plan on continuing the relationship with the lady from work, I'd also take into consideration things that would make her comfortable to hang out with you there. She may think you gaudy with your V-8 coffee table, Leather throw rug, and impala bumper hanging on the wall.
You can never be gaudy having a v-8 coffee table. That is just awesome.
props if you do it with a V12 using the pistons on the four end cylinders as table supports.
Man-Bonus if you use a radial. MEGA-Man-Bonus if the engine is still totally functional.
Is your avatar of you and your daughter?
Yes sir. [editline]20th February 2014[/editline]
what are your hobbies besides watching sports?
I play video games and bowl. We only have 1 kid together and we share custody so that makes it much easier. I stuck around for so long in that shitty relationship never thinking I'd have the balls to leave, but I guess one day I just realized there is no room in a relationship (especially a marriage) for cheating. To this day she still downplays what she did all the time, blaming me. Anyway, I'm slowly making progress with the decorating, but just don't know what to do. It's a 2-bedroom and I only occupy one of the bedrooms, so I need to figure out how to make the other bedroom into something awesome.
One of my most favorite investments I've put into my comfort and surroundings was the combo of an awesome large IKEA KIVIK series Sofa and Chaise, with a 65" Plasma, surround sound and most of all a Home media computer where I can access all of my movies comfortably. As far as decorating, I find inspiration looking at Restoration Hardware's style and IKEA. You can come up with some cool ideas from those places and adapt them to what you can afford and your space.
Thanks Ajacks, I already have the couches and a 52" SamSung with my PS4 hooked up.
If you're so lonely and you have lot of money coming in then play with a stripper. Or your dog (not the same way as the stripper, of course.)
If you're so lonely and you have lot of money coming in then play with a stripper. Or your dog.
Or your mother.
If you have bare walls then get some canvases or prints of art/TV/movies you like. The possibilities are endless.
bowling pin lanterns?
Get "thick walled bud vase"s. Invite friends over. Pour your beers/mixed drinks in them. (vases. Not friends)........ (both)
Get a bunch of LED strips and plug them in. It adds to mood lighting and can also be a great feature for parties and the like. They are around 25$ on amazon for full kits but if you want to buy the circuits separately, they can be as cheap as 10$.
Massive home theater. Waterbed. Lava Lamp. 8-track of Barry White's greatest hits. Those chili pepper christmas lights.
How about some movie posters? You can't really go wrong with those.
Christmas lights where wall meets ceiling, do every room.
