So today my good friend dropped around an Alesis iO4 interface at my place and I've got it hooked up via USB at the moment with my guitar connected.
I'm trying to use it with Cubase and the iO4 can be selected successfully as an input - but my speakers (listed as High Definition Audio Device) have a red cross displayed next to them and it asks if 'MS GS Wavetable Synth' is enabled. This is stopping me from using my speakers as a sound output - how do I disable this MS GS Wavetable Synth?

Here's what I'm seeing right now. Thanks in advance if you guys can throw together any solutions
also this may or may not be in the right section - I figured this would be the section with people most familiar with ASIO4ALL, but it could be moved to H/S if absolutely necessary
This happens when you have a program in the background running that produces sound (e.g: browser, skype, etc.)
Ensure that these are closed, if the problem still persists it may require a driver reinstall
This may sound stupid, but do you have your speakers hooked up to the iO4 outputs?
Because your speakers shouldn't be listed as High Definition Audio Device, since that's the default name for your internal soundcard iirc.

My speakers are plugged in to my PC. My interface is plugged in via USB - my only soundcard is the one built in to my motherboard, I don't have a specialised card or anything.
Yeah, plug your speakers into the iO4, and the iO4 into your PC. Cubase can't have two interfaces running at the same time (afaik).
An interface is basically an outboard soundcard.

Do I need a 3.5-6.5 connector to do that? I can't see any ports that are 3.5 on the iO4
Yep, you'll need 6.5 jacks or a 3.5 to 6.5 connectors.
I have to use ASIO4ALL for my guitar recording. It forever bitches about MS GS WAVETABLE SYNTH no matter what I've done to disable it. I agree completely that you will have to use a separate interface. If I want to use my computer audio with my guitar plugged in I have to switch to "Wave Out", but that does increase the latency quite a bit.
Alright, thanks guys :D I'll grab a connector at some point and report back

one step forward, two steps back - haven't had a chance to grab a connector yet but now the guitar's playing through my TV's speakers in FL studio :v:
You shouldn't need to use ASIO4ALL if you're using a real interface because the interface should have it's own ASIO drivers.

It works with 'low-latency generic ASIO driver' (not the exact name but roughly close) but that has quite a lot more delay and a lot more background noise :(
Does anybody know what the cause of a high-pitched sound is for an io4?
