The average price for unleaded petrol in Britain is now £1.29 a litre ($7.90 per gallon) and a massive £1.34 per litre for diesel ($8.20 per gallon), making it the highest price Britain has ever seen, and the government plans an extra 5p per litre in April.
In January 2011, the price of petrol going to the oil companies was 40p per litre, and the price going to the petrol station was 4p per litre, making fuel tax and VAT add up to 82p (where unleaded was £1.26 in January)
Ed Miliband, leader of the Labour party says, "Cut, cut, cut, tax, tax, tax, it's way too much, way too soon, people are losing their jobs over this"
However David Cameron plans to rise the tax more, saying, "like when an idividual is in debt, this country is in debt, and we all need to make sacrifices"
Meanwhile the tax on cigarettes and alcohol has remained the same, and there are no plans to change this

That's fucked up. Our dependence on oil is completely fucked up. Why are we using such a environmentally dangerous chemical when there are so many alternate solutions out there that are not even remotely as destructive?
Unfortunately it's not like anyone can do anything since the fucking oil companies have pretty much everyone by the balls.
Anyone that tries creating an alternate fuel source or an alternate means of production ALWAYS ends up getting silenced by the big oil companies. It's fucking bullshit. You know how apparently it's a breakthrough to create a vehicle that has a 100MPG fuel range? Well no, it's not. I can GUARANTEE that we already have EVERY piece of technology to completely rape that fuel economy and make vehicles that can travel much further with less emissions using less fuel than the ignorant bodies today could have ever imagined. I want to fucking burn down every single one of the fucking big oil headquarters and beat everyone in charge over there with a blunt object.
Just as I learn to drive...
I feel bad for you Brits. That's nearly twice as high as it is here in Midwest America.

There's not much money return in alternative fuels.
To think I still haven't got my motorcycle license yet, damn you Cameron.
Stop raising the fucking taxes already.
How much weed and hookers are they buying?
They should raise taxes on cigarettes instead
People need to drive around but don't need to smoke
They should raise taxes on cigarettes instead

That's exactly why they haven't. There's 30,000,000 cars on the road, all need petrol = lots of money
Holy shit $8 a gallon? We went crazy when it was like $3. Feel sorry for you guys

What'll really bake your noodle now is that the Govt will probably make a lot more money in tax by legalizing and legislating cannabis and prostitution.

One thing the British government tries to do is look good for the EU, if all the other European countries got out of recession by budget planning, and the only way for Britain to get out was to legalise something they were so much against, it would be quite embarrassing
Jesus Christ. I only remember gas going to $5 here, and people were pissed, but $8+? Man that's not gonna settle too well.
"However David Cameron plans to rise the tax more, saying, "like when an idividual is in debt, this country is in debt, and we all need to make sacrifices"
i've never heard so much shit come out of one man's mouth since Glenn Beck. i'd love to see what the MPs and Mr Cameron himself is sacrificing ( fuck all ) and how this is going to effect the already rich ( it won't as usual )
Next country to riot.......seems to be us.

I don't want to drive electric cars or use public transportation BAWWWWW
Basically the attitude of people like the one in the photo directly above your post
There is an alternative called LPG, it's appearing at more and more petrol stations but it's more than doubled in price over the past couple of years and is now at 70p / litre. It's mostly only used on 4x4's with low MPG as the vehicle needs to be converted which costs around £2,000
What happened to hydrogen fuel? I remember there being a lot of advances a few years ago, now I rarely see anything. I know it was dangerous ("Hey guys! Let's let the boy racer crash with a extremely volatile fuel!) but it looked promising.
Dammit money, stop being important :argh:

That's market economy and capitalism in general for you. As long as they use legal ways, they are allowed to do everything.
It's not for good of people. It's not for good of environment. But apparently, humans are too terrible to function under any more socially aimed system, so you are stuck with it.
Sometimes I think they're going to jack up the price of oil to FORCE people to stop depending on it.
Think about it- how much of the population will voluntarily give up the comforts of an oil driven society? On the other hand, how much cruising around in your gas hog sportscar are you going to want to do when gas is $8 a gallon?
Problem is no government will have the balls to do that because public would rip them apart and so would the oil lobbies.

You could just say propane.
Sure, you can run a car on propane and the engine will even last a bit longer than if you ran it on normal gas. However, the little savings generated by the fuel costs are largely offset by having to drive further to gas stations carrying LPG, the weight of the system, maintenance costs and of course installation costs.

At least here in Czech Republic where we have quite extensive amount of LPG filling gas stations, the savings are quite noticeable even after all the expenses you named.

Heh some of us did, evidently not hard enough though, where I live is in risk of having all the forest privatized unless we keep watching it like vultures, and I might not be able to afford the third year of my uni course because so many selfishly cuntish universities are bumping the fees right up to the allowed £9,000... YEAH THANKS CAMERON THAT HELPS EVERYONE. Then you get Murdoch's news that will only report how terrible us students/leftwing citizens are etc. etc.

Just saying, if you surround a hydrogen fuel cell with a near vaccum containing only ozone or the hydroxyl radical, it would be perfectly safe, seen as as soon as the cell is punctured the hydrogen would react to form water.

The more you know. I really should have taken Chemistry or something at A-level, but my computing course wouldn't give me the time for that.

I didn't learn that in my chemistry course. I'm currently failing advanced higher (Basically first year uni work, but in high school)
Start to become progressively less dependent on crude oil now, or realise we fucked up on an unimaginable scale when flooded low lying countries mass migrate to the likes of the UK, USA, and China, this is a race against motherfucking time.
You guys do remember that we have literally no money left and now we have to bail Ireland out of a huge money crisis
I cant say i completely blame the government right now
