I fucking love Jim
I fucking love Jim
Even when this is one of his weakest videos yet? He's done very little fact-checking, just making up a bunch of assumptions based on "Oh, these people worked together, therefore bad things!" So Kaz is appropriate. He's either a bitter old man who's lost his sense of reality and jumps the gun on any percieved threat, or he's playing us like a damn fiddle.
I don't really mind if he makes mistakes. He's a human and has won my love and appreciation a long time ago.
I fucking love Jim
Thank god for... oh wait wrong Jim.
From the corruption in gaming thread.
There's a good summary on 8chan. Basically: Watkins (who ousted Nishimura) owns the domain and servers. Hotwheels is admin and (lead?) developer, but since the code is OSS he doesn't have any control over the site itself, legally speaking. What he (and anyone else) will always be able to do once Infinity Next launches is instantly set up a perfect clone due it being released under AGPL. The current license doesn't make that guarantee, but afaik the site's code is still online in full under the original vichan license. So essentially: Watkins could in theory do shady stuff with 8chan, but I doubt that would happen in significant capacity since technically he did stop it happening on 2ch.net. I have the same policy on 8chan as anywhere else though (not giving out personal data, blocking analytics, not saying anything I wouldn't in person), so I may have less reason to be concerned than most others who use it. If he starts doing shady things I'm pretty sure Hotwheels would notice it, since as admin he has (or at least should have) complete control over the server. He should look into locking down the CDN if possible to prevent exploits though. Nishimura (who was responsible for the shady (and illegal, according to a court ruling) things happening to 2ch.net at the time), cloned the site after being fired (after giving away control for monetary reasons) and is copying its content. He also owns 4chan now, so I'm interested to see what's going to happen with that. (On a separate note: I would be cool to set up a distributed imageboard that doesn't need a dedicated host and is instead propped up by its users. However, aside from that being not quite trivial (but definitely possible with at most only a tracker server, due to browser P2P browser APIs), it would be an absolute legal nightmare for its users the likes of which have not yet been seen to this day.)
I like Internet Aristocrat's videos, but he's throwing around a lot of unfounded assumptions here. Also, the title is a clear overreaction. But this deal smells fishy nonetheless. More investigation is required.
Ill ask hotwheels about the acusations made tomorrow on IRC. He hangs around on the channel I frequent
I don't really mind if he makes mistakes. He's a human and has won my love and appreciation a long time ago.
Right, blindly following someone never turned out bad!
Sequel if anyone cares. [editline]24th September 2015[/editline]
Right, blindly following someone never turned out bad!
Especially someone who makes mistakes and has in the past sold info to data miners. Gotta love that guy right?
While it's good that he got his shit straight (albeit through another hit of lazy reporting since none of the investigative work was his) what was the point of even referencing Kaz and the Fiddle to begin with?
While it's good that he got his shit straight (albeit through another hit of lazy reporting since none of the investigative work was his) what was the point of even referencing Kaz and the Fiddle to begin with?
It's one of the hottest and dankest memes right now, and Chans are known for their memes. /shittyjoke As for my whole take on this, it sucks if it's true, but I don't really care anymore. Haven't been on a chan for a year or so, as I just got sick of all the shitposting and circlejerking after putting up with it since 2008.
He's done very little fact-checking, just making up a bunch of assumptions based on "Oh, these people worked together, therefore bad things!".
Seems reasonable to make the jump in this case.
