EA and Maxis said over 700 pieces of content previously available to only male or female Sims will now be accessible regardless of gender in "The Sims 4" and its various expansion packs.
"The Sims 4" executive producer Rachel Franklin said in an email to The Associated Press that the developers have been working for over a year on the update. She noted that "female Sims can wear sharp men's suits like Ellen (DeGeneres), and male Sims can wear heels like Prince."
Franklin also noted players can now change their Sims' gender at any time and specify whether they can reproduce with other characters. She said Maxis worked with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender advocacy group GLAAD on the update, including following a suggestion to remove gender symbols associated with characters in the game's gallery.
also maxis is still a studio?
How will this affect npcs?
Knowing the devs, this is going to cause some hilarious glitches
Even when looking outside the respect for LGBT. Then this is nice from a gameplay perspective. Much more cloths to choose from and I don't really see any negatives with this.
Good one Maxis!

They still have their Sims department, don't think anything else is still operational.
I always kinda hated when games locked certain outfits to certain genders, so I welcome this change.
More long hairstyles for metal dudes!
how is sims 4? i liked sims 3 but it lagged too much and the loading took ages. is there a modding scene around sims 4?
This isn't a bad idea, good job Maxis.
I don't see why they needed to work with an LGBT group considering it's just remaking the clothing for the opposite gender's model. What did they need to ask, whether or not it was a good idea to do it?

It's a lot more optimized and the art style feels very cozy. Gameplay wise it's all right, just needs some expansion packs.
also maxis is still a studio?
They closed the original studio that we knew as Maxis, it's essentially an Atari situation now where the company still 'exists' but it's a completely different company

I'd say Sims 4 is better then the third. Plays way better, and doesn't have long loading screens. Modding scene is also doing real good in The Sims 4. Last mod I got added cars as something in buy mode and could be used. There are other real good mods as well.

I like Sims 4 a lot but it often feels like it's one step forward, one step back.
There's a lot of great improvements, it runs like a dream, I love the new style, the Create-A-Sim is great, I like the new emotions system a lot, and little things like being able to multitask are excellent additions. But the lack of an open world, or create-a-style is a real bummer. And there's the thing Sims games always do where you need to wait for the inevitable remakes of old expansions to come out.
this is gonna be hilarious
can't wait to watch Joel from vinesauce making a giant purple-skinned crossdressing abomination and launching it (along with my sides) into orbit in a fucking bathtub

It's like Sims 3 with less stuff in it
It's like Sims 3 with less stuff in it
No it's different. It may lack some content right now, but things keep getting added. Also I love the multitasking and personalities.

Does this mean men can get pregnant ?
The list of custom gender settings in case some people were wondering.

I can tell that some people are gonna be all over this for being "SJW PANDERING!!!" but as far as I'm concerned this is a pretty great new degree of customization no matter how you slice it.

For some reason I find it funny you can choose to become pregnant, and at the same time pee standing up. I don't think that'd work very well but ok.

To be honest more customization is all for the better regardless of the reason why.

"Clothing Preference: Masculine / Feminine"
Shit, I was hoping that you could mix and match both masculine and feminine clothing together.

You can mix and match actually. That option just changes the default CAS view.

I haven't checked yet, but you may be able to. It may just set a preference for outfits generated by the game.

At first I thought "Oh, here we go with thirty-one different genders", but that is actually super functional and really well done. This whole update sounds amazing. No bullshit, just the creative freedom for everyone to do what they want.
