“Dubstep is just a name now. It doesn’t have a meaning any more and the movement is over. It’s like the end of a relationship but it’s ended on a high. I’ve done dubstep since I was 14 but there’s no way I’m going to be dictated to. I stopped because I’m not inspired by it any more.”
http://betherave.com/skream-to-quit-dubstep-says-it-is-over/ Agree? Disagree?
Take this for what you will: https://twitter.com/i_skream/status/339452723671998464
I thought it was over as soon as skrillex started dubstepping, he became the face of the genre and all the other dubsteppers tried to sound like him. After that it became impossible to find 'good' dubstep
I wish.
I'm not inspired by it anymore so that must mean it is dead. Lol get over yourself.
Dubstep is dying call 911 now
i thought dubstep was invented for quickscope videos
Guys he's just saying he has stopped producing dubstep. Which is fine, Skream is a good DJ and will make some better tunes.
yea dubstep was a pretty cool trend while it lasted(minus skrillex-esque shit), but it's done with now. most edm artists i enjoy that were big on dubstep are branching out into other genres now. dubstep started off good but it's been run into the ground now.
-snip-
suddenly daft punk announce new dubstep album, genre is alive again. disco goes back to being dead

Has dubstep really been around since 2000? (he claims he started when he was 14)
Has dubstep really been around since 2000? (he claims he started when he was 14)
earlier. dubstep broke mainstream relatively recently but there has been a dubstep movement for a very long time. early dubstep sounds WAY different than modern dubstep though.
Has dubstep really been around since 2000? (he claims he started when he was 14)
I guess it's one of those fads that suddenly become popular despite being around for a while. Kind of like how the Hunger Games book became popular when the movie came out even though the book was published back in 2008.
I kind of like the sound of certain dubstep songs. I mostly just like electro, DnB, and chillstep though.
With so many people trying to build off of Skrillex's fame and going down the "wub wub screech screech" road, it's been much harder to find good songs. Gems are still out there, but they're quite rare now. Is dubstep dead? Certainly not. Is the dubstep pre-Skrillex starting to die? Sadly, yes, but very slowly.
I think dubstep is on it's way out. It was clearly a fad to me, as a kind of "new and edgy" thing to get into by most of its current fans. It's to the point where its been beating a dead horse now for years with dubstep-inspired sounds infecting many other EDM genres that sound like ass with wub's thrown in and it genuinely sounds like effortless crap (read: cash-in). There's some good dubstep out there (I don't care for it overall personally) but the same exact grungy sound has been done to death already, been cashed in by other EDM DJ's, trailers/moves, games, etc. Clearly that is indicative of it being a fad, and seeing as it's so easy to make something "wub wub" even if it sounds like shit and didn't have any thought put into it its a no brainer why it exploded when the "mainstream edgy teenager" crowd started liking it.
I fucking love dubstep

If you like a certain type of music because you want to fit in is just plain stupid.
I don't think liking dubstep makes anyone "edgy". If you like a certain type of music because you want to fit in is just plain stupid.
you pretty much described why kids/teens/young adults began to pick the genre up in the first place
I dunno, I don't listen to much dubstep but it doesn't seem dead to me, "mainstream" genres seem to rarely ever die, they just sink into other genres. also skrilly is supposed to release his first album this summer, dubstep is saved #givelifebacktosubwoofers
I don't think liking dubstep makes anyone "edgy". If you like a certain type of music because you want to fit in is just plain stupid.
Of course it doesn't, but you'd be silly to think that part of it's popularity isn't because it's such a "new" dirty/grungy/edgier style of music
Way to go Cap'n Obvious! Dubstep (and wobbly basses) is just another fad that will come and go out of style. [editline]28th May 2013[/editline] It's already being replaced by Trap.
Every genre of music has it's shining spotlight moment. Punk was huge in the 90's, now it's more of a casual thing. We had a disco era and a swing era and all that. It passes with time. It's electronic music now-a-days, like pop (garbage) and dubstep. Just like with everything, Dubstep will be made regardless forever. It just won't be "the buzz". Hell, maybe French House or Glitch Hop will pick up and be huge. We never know fads because people tend to just follow what's "cool". We'll just have to see what time brings with music I guess. thank god! dubstep sounds like a bunch of random songs mixed with dial-up and fax machine sounds [editline]29th May 2013[/editline] can we get back to making daft-punkish music instead now?
Good. I can understand people liking and thats just fine but literally almost every song ive heard sounds like shit and i guess im just to stubborn to listen to music that isnt made with real instruments.
