As Jay discussed in his PvP update, patch 1.0.7 will introduce dueling, allowing players to test their mettle against fellow Nephalem. Here's a quick rundown of how dueling will work in Diablo III as well as some insight into our design philosophy for the system. How it Works: To duel another player, you’ll need to speak with Nek the Brawler at the inn in New Tristram Speaking with Nek will take you and your party to the Scorched Chapel, a new zone designed specifically for player combat This zone has custom geometry and features four different areas: the church, the graveyard, the river, and the lake Dueling currently supports up to four players in a Free-For-All format, which means you can battle your friends either one-on-one, three-player FFA, or a full four-player FFA Our intent is to provide players a safe, opt-in location where they can fight one another for bragging rights (or maybe science) without the potential for griefing as it existed in Diablo II. The game doesn't keep score and there are no objectives. We wanted dueling to be as simple and straightforward as possible, so we created a minimalist system -- we know that even without rewards and objectives, some players just want to beat each other up. Some matchups may be one-sided, and we don't expect that battles will be necessarily balanced. But that's okay, because dueling in Diablo III is more about kicking ass and taking names in a no-holds-barred sort of way, and this design certainly allows you to accomplish that. Additional Info: If you die in the dueling world, you will be resurrected in the dueling zone Death is not permanent in the dueling zone, even for Hardcore characters You don't take any durability damage while in the dueling zone When you're done dueling you can take a portal out or use your Town Portal to return to town.
http://us.battle.net//d3/en/blog/8414560
Cant fix a ruined reputation for a lack luster, money grabbing game.
Cant fix a ruined reputation for a lack luster, money grabbing game.
I enjoy playing the game alot. And ive played diablo 1,2 and lod.
Dueling currently supports up to four players in a Free-For-All format, which means you can battle your friends either one-on-one, three-player FFA, or a full four-player FFA
Wait, I thought it was duel only, as in 1v1? That aside, that's kinda neat.
The game doesn't keep score and there are no objectives. We wanted dueling to be as simple and straightforward as possible, so we created a minimalist system
So why did it take like 7 months for it to come out?
So why did it take like 7 months for it to come out?
because they were working on the arena for 7 months before deciding to scrap it because it would be a pain in the ass to balance so within the last month or so they've made dueling???
So why did it take like 7 months for it to come out?
Same reason its taken 3 years to release that starcraft 2 expansion and its 5 new units.
So why did it take like 7 months for it to come out?
Same reason the game took 11 years to make
Cant fix a ruined reputation for a lack luster, money grabbing game.
I've actually been playing it again recently, and I kind of regret jumping on "d3 is over fuck jay wilson omg" bangwagon so quickly. Although the game still lacks lots of elements, Blizzard is releasing pretty big patches for FREE. I mean, the game's getting there slowly but surely. Much like D2, an expansion could totally make this game an actual, good diablo game. It's really insane how long it takes blizzard to release patches though. Slow as hell. btw you might want to edit the title, PVP isn't out yet. It's "soon" going to be on the public testing realms.

I don't care enough to reinstall.
Took too fucking long blizzard, that hype train died long ago.
Its not really pvp. DUEL thing - Just like in WoW
Its not really pvp. DUEL thing - Just like in WoW
Which is player versus player combat. You know, pvp.

Meh, got bored of Diablo III within a short time of playing it, though I guess i'm not the sort of person they're aiming for with this PVP thing.
without the potential for griefing as it existed in Diablo II.
Not coming back.
I don't know how PvP could even have taken passed launch to develop. They could of just did it like Diablo 2, but maybe make it mutual - until they came out with something.
I don't care enough to reinstall.
but you bought it, so that's only a matter of hard drive space. don't mean to brag about it but I saw all this coming miles away. First in the form of some early US alpha, and after release on brother's account, it quickly convinced me not to jump in. a lot of ppl also quit playing it shortly after too.
PvP in Diablo 2 was totally fine, no rules at all.
Only like 6 months too late

I don't think that is a valid argument. I played the D3 Arena PvP at blizzcon and it appeared extremely polished and quite frankly I was shocked to see it not make the release.
i think this is the game i've truly regret purchasing the most
i think this is the game i've truly regret purchasing the most
I regret buying Brink more than this.
I got around 230 hours out of the game before I got bored of it. $59.99 well spent in that case.
