They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. For those of you not in the UK, or for those of you who are and are uninformed (Shame on you), Remembrance Sunday is the day where we commemorate those British soldiers who have, are, and will die fighting for freedom. I hope all of you, even those of you who don't normally do anything like this, will do your part to immortalise those who have given their lives, or their youths, sacrificing it all for other's freedom. There are two main parts to this event. Remembrance Day - 11/11 This is to commemorate the ending of the First World War, the armistice signed on the 11th November 1918, at 11 o'clock. You may also know it as "Veteran's day" or "Armistice Day". It is celebrated in most Allied countries. The ceremony in the UK is usually a two-minute period of silence, I am unsure of what happens elsewhere, please enlighten us. The main commemoration occurs (In the UK) on the second Sunday of November, the Sunday closest to Remembrance Day. Remembrance Sunday On the Second Sunday of November, Remembrance Sunday, a national ceremony is held in Whitehall, London. Wreaths are laid by the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of York, the Princess Royal, the Duke of Kent, the Earl of Wessex, and Prince William of Wales; the Prime Minister, leaders of major political parties, the Foreign Secretary, the Commonwealth High Commissioners and representatives from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force, the Merchant Navy and fishing fleets and the civilian services. Those of you not around London are likely to have similar services at your local place of worship. Another Two-minute silence is held at 11am, before the Wreaths are laid. The silence will usually be marked by the firing of a rifle, or the tolling of the church bell. After the silence, a bugle will sound the "Last Post" (You'll recognise it when you hear it). This will be followed by the singing of the UK National Anthem, and a March-past of the War Memorial. There is a live broadcast of the Ceremony available on the BBC, which I believe is available worldwide, and therefore encourage people to watch. I hope all of you in the UK will be going to your local service to commemorate this day, it really is very important as it celebrates not only the soldiers who have fought, and died in the past, but those who are fighting and will be fighting for many years to come, fighting for our and other people's freedom. Being in a Cadet force I will be part of the Parade itself and will be wearing my poppy with pride as I march past the memorial this Sunday. I hope you will all do as much as you can to pay your respects to your Country's soldiers. 11/11/2010, the day they fixed the graphics bugs in Black ops.
11/11/2010, the day they fixed the graphics bugs in Black ops.
wow. arrogant, 12 year old with no friends. [editline]9th November 2010[/editline] I was going to be apart of the march through my local town centre, but on the day I was seriously ill. At the time, I was also an Army cadet. 6th battalion royal welsh fusiliers, A company. I sorta miss it :saddowns:
Is anyone other than my doing a Remembrance Parade on Sunday? Or even watching one?
My Granddad served in the second world war, so on sunday me and my brothers are taking him out for a meal down the pub :buddy:
Dying fighting for our mistakes. God bless the expendable army :911:
I'm in a cadet force too (Army Cadets), and I will be parading in the local town centre. Unfortunately the air cadets end up dropping likes flies, they don't seem to be able to stand still for 5 minutes without fainting. But are you actually part of the London parade? It must be brilliant to be part of that. And you beat me to making this thread by a minute, I was just checking to see if it had already being made.

makes me proud to see that no other country in the world unifies as one to push forward through hardship and fighting like the British. there is a reason why we were once the Greatest country on earth.
If anyone wants my poppy avatar, the correct size version is uploaded here http://i53.tinypic.com/23wwfo4.jpg And at Dragon Master, my platoon is a Royal Fusiliers platoon. I Like the hackle, it looks really smart and makes us stand out.

It wasn't all "Britain" it was "The British Empire". [editline]9th November 2010[/editline] still, point made.

First truely free men that developed the entre world as we see it today. if we weren't pressured by the USA to give independence to the Middle East and Far eastern colonies. the war on terrorism may not have even started. :downs: [editline]9th November 2010[/editline]
If anyone wants my poppy avatar, the correct size version is uploaded here http://i53.tinypic.com/23wwfo4.jpg And at Dragon Master, my platoon is a Royal Fusiliers platoon. During the revolutionary war.

As far as fighting WW2 and in NATO against Communism, sure, that was admirable and without it we could be living in ghettos or gulags or in complete isolation, and I don't even mean to diminish WW1's soldiers contribution, but really Germany didn't restrict freedoms any more than Britain.

I would have had the jazzy blue and orange hackle of the Warwickshire Fusiliers if they hadn't.

We have a red tipped white hackle now. This symbolises when the plumes were taken from the dead French and dipped in their blood at the battle of St.Lucia (1778) by the Royal Northumberland Regiment
Dying fighting for our mistakes. God bless the expendable army :911:
You're an asshole. No matter if your country is right or wrong, friend or foe, everyone that has the courage to fight and die for his country is a hero.
Germany won't like this. If my history is right, they had the most embarrassing surrender at Versailles. I mean unless they're over that of course. (correct me if I'm wrong)

(correct me if I'm wrong)
Well Hitler made France sign their surrender contract thing (Don't know the word in English, sorry) in the exact same waggon. But seriously, Germany is the most anti-war country ever. You can't wear military pants here without getting called a Nazi.
To honor this day in history, I have to take a Math 243 exam that will make or break the grade in the class. Fuck.
I am from Canada, and I will remember.

It's threads like these that make me proud to be an American
11/11/2010, the day they fixed the graphics bugs in Black ops.
too bad it was released at all
Never knew about this day, being an American. I'm glad there are days like these to honor those who have served.

I never really got how us Canadians were in the war from the start, lost many troops, but then America came in at the last year or something (I don't remember exactly when) gave us a push, but they still lost more troops then we did over the entire war. Non the less, I salute the soldiers that died on in and out of the trenches.
