When studying the Middle East in my class, the initial reasoning behind blaming the Armenians was because of a spectacular failure by the Turks in the Caucasus against the Russians, and the commander was so embarassed that he said "It's the Armenians' fault, they're what stopped us, they aided the enemy and disrupted our supplies!"
And that's all what was needed to start this
Literally sounds like a Rome Total War piece. Which isn't a bad thing.
