I've not seen an article yet.
Also, Disney is in a fuss over the deadmau5 logo
http://www.cbc.ca/newsblogs/yourcommunity/2014/09/deadmau5-disney-face-off-over-mouse-ears-logo.html
I honestly hope Disney wins. Deadmau5 is a douche.
This burn though:
"Disney thinks you might confuse an established electronic musician / performer with a cartoon mouse. That's how stupid they think you are."
how can you confuse two well established, completely different things? :v:
everyone knows who mickey mouse is, and I'm sure most people know who deadmau5 is too
Fuck legal battles.
Deadmau5 should get his trademark, disney should ask deadmau5 for permission when doing that remix.
Why do corporations give a shit whether or not a logo is similar to theirs? To me it just seems like a case of proving you can muscle over the smaller guy, more than actually trying to make a change or protect something.
I mean, Starbucks did it with some Coffee parlor in Seattle or something- "Star Buzz" or something and their logo was somewhat similar to Starbucks, despite the fact the store had existed for ten years or something like that. So Starbucks sues and demands the shop change their name and design.
as if ANYONE is going to confuse a small mom-n-pop coffee shop named Star Buzz for STARBUCKS. A company that has changed its logo multiple times, even.
The same can be said for DeadMau5 and Disney. CLEARLY there is no direct connection. Are they going to sue the animal kingdom for using the term "Mouse"?
Wait, deadmau5 isn't a Disney employee? What about the cartoon they made about him and everything?

If you think that's dumb, I've heard GE has a massive tome dedicated solely to what you cannot do to the GE logo.
I honestly hope Disney wins. Deadmau5 is a douche.
The fact you think he's a douche kinda just shows how little you know about him. He is one of the most down-to-Earth musicians I've ever seen and he does not bullshit anyone about anything.
i hope deadmau5 wins, disney doesn't need any more money than it already has

People mistake his brutal honesty and no-bullshit attitude for being a douche - he's naturally like that because he's a genuinely good person that's been thrust into one of the most toxic industries on earth and people seeing him as an asshole is a defense mechanism that works for him
Seriously, Disney? Trying to dick over the smaller guy?
Give him a break, christ. You don't own every piece of artwork with a mouse in it.

I don't even like his music remotely, but I still love the guy for basically this reason.
Especially when he was explaining how DJs operate at live performances, circa people laughing at Skrillex for the push-play approach.

The whole "I am Electronic music's saviour" complex is still kind of a big factor though.

who cares. the big copyright monster disney needs a taste of its own medicine
Apparently it's bad for Disney to be protective it's brand image
Apparently it's bad for Disney to be protective it's brand image
Not really, this is on par with me suing a man because his beard looks very slightly almost similar to mine.
Apparently it's bad for Disney to be protective it's brand image
yeah, after 10 years of deadmau5 having that trademark. don't pretend this isn't political
hate to say it but disney has kinda had that design far longer than deadmou5, but it's still pretty stupid regardless.
About the video: You can hardly call that a remix. It's more like Ghost 'N Stuff with spoopy sounds occasionally. Now, maybe that qualifies as a remix, unbeknownst to me, but since Disney labeled it as a remix, that's where they should be in trouble, because it's basically not a remix.
About the logo: Disney, fuck off.
As far as the copyright goes, Disney didn't do enough to really transform it. Seems pretty open and shut.
The tradmark thing is ridiculous though. Two circles.

Aren't Disney huge copyright assholes?
Aren't Disney huge copyright assholes?
They are the main reason why the copyright system is such a joke right now. Ever hear of The Mickey Mouse laws?
There are some really silly tweets in the article

Here's the video Deadmau5 is sending a c&d for. Not even a parody or sampling, it's just the song with some sound effects over it. GG Disney.
edit: second page of the legal document shows just how many companies are involved.

just the other day we were talking about ferrari sending a CND to deadmau5 because he put a non-official emblem on his car
