The Maine Supreme Court has issued an advisory opinion Tuesday that the state’s new ranked-choice voting law conflicts with the state constitution. Debate is now growing over what happens next.
In a 51-page opinion, the justices unanimously advised the Legislature that the ranked-choice voting law approved by voters last fall conflicts with the state constitution. The justices say the constitution clearly says that an election for the Legislature or for governor is won by the candidate that gets the plurality of the votes in that contest.

FALMOUTH — Maine’s highest court issued an advisory opinion Tuesday that the ranked-choice voting act approved by voters last November is unconstitutional.
The court’s action sent lawmakers scrambling to decide what to do next.
State Sen. Cathy Breen, D-Falmouth, said she plans to submit a bill to amend the state Constitution to allow the use of ranked-choice voting in state elections going forward.
There some hope and they not given up for fight.
It'll take a two-thirds majority vote, but I think it's doable. RCV is awesome and we need it badly. If we don't implement it, we can look forward to more right-wing jerks like LePage.
If this is shot down and ranked voting is found 100% unconstitutional then we're effectively seeing the final nail in the coffin for the United States on the grand scale. Nothing immediate, but very, very long term, as more accurate representation is going to be a much larger social problem as the population of the world increases, etc.

If by means rigged/paid ruling by Maine Republican Party privately paid judges against it. (And yet again this I worried about.)
Then course they will declare to be 100% unconstitutional (even their words said this is the way how to get this voting system implanted right) if they want to change one of the state's constitution word from plurality to majority or majority-based.

Did you think something else?

I think it unlikely. The GOP hugely before from our broken voting system. Why would they want to fix it?

Hugely benefits*

Maybe if their lives depended on it? After all, you can't be a political profiteer if you're dead. That's just fact.

The GOP is actively trying to sabotage our voting system, with voter suppression tactics like gerrymandering or special identifications that poor people and non-whites have trouble obtaining.

These are people who would deny climate change to line their pockets, do you think they're that forward-thinking?

What exactly are you implying? :unimpressed:
Well, a lot of Republicans didn't want Trump to win. Trump certainly was not the establishment choice. If I'm not mistaken, a ranked system would mean that it wouldn't come down to just two candidates at the end vote, and there would be a handful to choose from. Given this choice, many Republicans probably would've put Bush or Rubio as their first vote, and Trump last. A lot of Republicans are still against Trump. A ranked system gets rid of the "Well this I hate this guy but he's the only one with a chance to win because he's already got large margin" vote.
So maybe they'd be for it.

The population of the US isn't likely to increase that much considering world population is supposedly bound to cap out at 10 billion people, and that the 12th billion person should never even be born.
Also it's unconstitutional to amend the constitution? You what? Do you even know how the constitution works :v:

The constitution is supposed to be an evolving document, something that changes over time to the needs of the people. Also, that's a STATE constitution at that, so the feds can even come in and overwrite it if something crazy happens (wouldn't be the first time). It can be changed lol. And if this is shot down by the legislature this time, they can bring it up again in some years time.
This post lacks some serious fundamental knowledge it's almost mind-boggling.

I hope you are right if this will change overtime to allowed Ranked-based voting systems like Ranked-Choice voting in future like if few more national/presidential elections and people are tired blaming third parties for their obvious brokenly corrupted major parties.

an armed revolution is highly unlikely and in reality would never get the results that they want. furthermore any targeting of a politician or group would tarnish the political movement that has achieved so much peacefully.

Only if (even less likely scenarios) a nation like The United States suffered a massive fiscal collapse. And then cause rise a lot of extreme groups from all political specturm.
Except for most their extremist members, they will won't care their movement is tarnished.

I have better idea. It OK to ask for support finacial and other wise for project I am working on? No violence.

Well when shit really hits the fan, I doubt violence will be frowned upon.
It would take A LOT for an Armed Revolution to happen. I'm talking past a financial collapse, and past the government throwing political enemies in internment camps.
In order for there to be in an Armed Revolution, death must look like a better alternative to your current life.
