Okay...that was seriously the promotional poster?
Anyways, unless you've been living under a rock, you've at least heard of (at least the event, I hope...). Director James Cameron's epic love story/disaster movie blockbuster which held the honor of highest grossing movie of all time until his own "Avatar" beat it last year. It deals with, well you guessed it, the Titanic, it's sinking, and particularly the effect it has on two lovers. Honestly, the second half of the movie makes it totally worth watching the slow first half(which I don't mind, I think the whole movie is great, it's just that the second half is so powerful). It's intense, engrossing, and downright sad and depressing. This is the movie that literally would have bankrupt James Cameron if it wasn't a success, and it shows. Everything, every little detail is there. I'm a huge history buff, I love that old turn of the 20th century feel, and he makes it all come alive. I love the architecture, the sets, the clothing, the styles, the smug attitudes, it's all great stuff to me(granted Cameron really does super demonize rich people, which is ironic, considering his wallet size). This, along with Twister and Jurassic Park were my childhood movies.
Who can forget the scene when the water come crashing through the grand staircase glass dome with James Horner's choir singing along with the screams of the drowning people?

Or the captain(who was on his last voyage before retirement btw)going down with the ship?

Or my personal favorite, and as far as I'm concerned, the best part of the movie. The whole spirit of the movie is captured in this one segment.

OH and just for the record, is MUCH cooler than
I mean just look at those hideous lifeboats taking up all that deck space...who needs em amirite? Besides, Titanic is practically steampunk, but with class. Everyone knows that steampunk = success.
Edit: Oh yes, and it's being re-released back in theaters in 2012 for the 100th anniversary in 3D.
the part with the poor people being forced to die pissed me off
The romance with sickeningly sappy, but the cinematography was breathtaking.
i liked the sequel better
I still need to get around to torren-I mean buying 'Titanic II'. Oh The Asylum, is there no end to your scummyness?

I mean Encryption did
'Take me to the stars!'
Ick.
I really liked the part where that guy hit the propeller blade as the ship was going down. That was a smash hit.
i really loved this film, and i've been fascinated with the titanic's wreck ever since i was a kid. the soundtrack is also brilliant.
"Take her to sea Mr Murdoch, let's stretch her legs!"
The story with sickeningly cliched, but the graphics were breathtaking.
That's how I felt about Avatar. Oh in case you didn't notice, I fixed it. But yes, I agree the love was sappy. In fact I actually sympathized with her fiance, I mean he was a snobby rich dick, but she was a downright bitch to him.

Holy shit. Whenever someone talks about Titanic I have to bring that up. Single best scene in the entire movie.

I'll watch Titanic without complaints, don't get me wrong. I have a taste for beautiful imagery. & the drama which ensues outside of the main cast---a mother reading to her child, a couple embracing, music being played, as the ship goes down---are poetic & well-done. You posted a clip of these scenes even.
I just don't like the romance.
Damn you, you beat me to making this thread.

An awesome trailer to an even greater film.
This is my favorite movie of all time.
Propeller man is 2:05 in trailer
I remember the first time I saw this, I was only 8 or so and I laughed because a womans dress blew up and you could see her knickers.
-snip, automerge-
I bet nobody knew that there was a Titanic reference in Osmosis Jones.

skip to 3:56. See what they did there?
I still haven't watched this movie. Guilty :smug:
I only liked when the ship was sinking. The rest bored me.
I love this film.
Now I want to watch it again. Don't think I've seen it since I was 15 or so, good to see there's other people who aren't afraid to admit they still like it.

Thread music.
Best part is when the uilleann pipes kick in.
It was my favourite movie as a kid and I still watch it from time to time. I've probably seen it over thirty times.
I loved this film, Definetly gotta watch it again soon.
I heard somewhere that when the captain said "women and children first" he actually meant put families together, but women and children have priority

wow you're not even funny, you're going to get banned for warez
:downs:
I re-watched this movie recently, it's actually fucking fantastic. I think the first time I watched it (must have been over 10 years ago now, I'm getting old) I was far too young to appreciate the emotion in it.
Only filmed that had me in holding back man tears when I re-watched.
Not seen for a while though.
Everytime I watch this movie, I just skip to the part where the boat his the iceberg.
The rest of it is annoying, but that's probably just me as I can't stand romance movies.
