On September 30 we published an article titled “Is Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End too formulaic?” based on what we thought was a hands-on session with Uncharted 4 at the Tokyo Game Show. We didn’t realise it at the time; what we’d played wasn’t Uncharted 4, but the remastered Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, from the recently released Uncharted Collection. We were not aware of this until after the article went live. As soon as Sony notified us of our mistake we immediately unpublished the article as it was clearly based on one massive error on our part.
I don't know how that happens with an Uncharted veteran but good on ya for admitting your mistake.
Tells a lot about how every Uncharted are basically the same games.
Tells a lot about how every Uncharted are basically the same games.
Tells alot about how much game journalism is a joke.
Tells a lot about how every Uncharted are basically the same games.
I've never even played Uncharted but I'm pretty sure I could tell them apart just from watching gameplay and trailers and stuff An "Uncharted veteran" should definitely have seen the difference
I've never even played Uncharted but I'm pretty sure I could tell them apart just from watching gameplay and trailers and stuff An "Uncharted veteran" should definitely have seen the difference
Especially since he probably should recognize that he's playing a game he's already played. I mean, how do you not notice you're playing something you've played before? How does this happen?
because its kind of forgettable.
You can tell each uncharted apart based on fidelity alone. Also, I personally have no problem with all the games being roughly the same. It's what I like about them, they're consistently good. I have yet to be disappointed or my expectations let down. This says more about the journalism than the games imo.
The 'preview' is incredibly hilarious, and cringeworthy, in this context. Weird the screenshots are from the actual Uncharted 4 game.
No guidance is offered on where you’re supposed to go next, but the Uncharted veteran in me immediately shimmied a sign post and leapt through a hole in a nearby wall.

Uncharted 4 is the first PS4 entry in a series that has traditionally pushed boundaries. Why does it feel so familiar?

But graphics don’t make the game, and even if Uncharted 4 is the most beautiful thing ever to have happened in the history of video games, it’s not – it’s not new. This is a complaint that has been levelled a lot this generation, I think, that games are just shinier rather than more interesting, and Uncharted may be in for the same critique. Where the first Uncharted games felt like they were blowing the bar sky high, this one just felt like more of the same.

It blew Pat away, so perhaps I just don’t have the eye to see what makes Uncharted 4 so tremendous graphics-wise
I honestly don't know how can people fuck up this badly at video game journalism. It's fucking easy if you love it guys, and stop mixing in social agendas, btw.
Especially since he probably should recognize that he's playing a game he's already played. I mean, how do you not notice you're playing something you've played before? Apparently I don't need to know anything about games to be a games journalist, great.

I could understand someone who's never played one of the games before to make this kind of mistake but this is just kind of pathetic. On top of that this guy is paid to write gaming news? Might as well just fire the dude.

Give them a break, at least they apologized. Some others would probably double down and dig their own grave.
Give them a break, at least they apologized. Some others would probably double down and dig their own grave.
No man, games journalism is right up there with war journalism. If you make one mistake you have to be fired and burned at the stake.

I don't see how he could mistake it for something else unless he played the game on a 4 inch tv.
People are forgetting the fucking title screen Yeah, it's not just a mistake, it's telling how well critics are self aware. South Park is right, they wouldn't notice boogers and seamen in their food.
Or, you know, they didn't show the title screen in the private demo?
Or it was in Japanese.
I guess the remastered version must be pretty damn good.
It's quite amazing how the writer for this fucked up. Not recognizing a game you played earlier? Like, I expect to hear something like this from The Onion or a GTA radio station.
tbh uncharted always looked really boring/bland to me I really genuinely doubt I would like them at all, but whatever works I guess
tbh uncharted always looked really boring/bland to me I really genuinely doubt I would like them at all, but whatever works I guess
I played 1 and 3, it's like if you skip every other entry you finally feel a few extra gameplay mechanics.
The Uncharted series is great. Those games along with MGS 4 were pretty much the only reason to get a PS3. It's a cheesy action movie in videogame form.
No man, games journalism is right up there with war journalism. If you make one mistake you have to be fired and burned at the stake.
People on a gaming forum caring about gaming and games journalism is silly?
I played 1 and 3, it's like if you skip every other entry you finally feel a few extra gameplay mechanics.
I'd argue you made a mistake on that one because Uncharted 2 is far and away the best in the trilogy in my opinion.
Or it was in Japanese.
The number 2 is the same in Japanese.
this is genuinely impressive how do you manage to do this when your professional career is based around video games
