The same guy that had an AI learn how to play Snake has taught AIs to play other games. He's done 3 games so I've just lumped them all into one thread. Since Snake he's done Pool, Asteroid, and PACMAN (only part 1 of PACMAN is out so far). He does all this amazing technical feats that I wish I even half understood. He coded a hex editor into a Super Mario World using this really obscure glitch and precise inputs, all by hand. After that he managed to make the hex editor permanent on a real cartridge. He is truely inspiring.

30 videos later: AI learns how to create a flawless totalitarian regime and enslave humanity for 5000 years with zero resistance.

I've watched the "AI learns to play pool" video and he is just using a genetic algorithm to find an optimal sequence of shots. This is not really an AI, but just a single sequence of optimal shots for a static pool table? I still love the idea and the videos, but calling it an AI is really a stretch :D EDIT: The asteroids video uses a neural net, nice!

If you change the initial configuration of the balls, I think it'll work as well. In my opinion he is quite overtraining his model.
It's AI by definition.
After some thoughts about it, I agree with you. In the end, the whole process of finding the best sequence of shots is an AI itself!
betting we'll see this stuff applied to games like doom before the year is out
betting we'll see this stuff applied to games like doom before the year is out
Instead of "can it run doom" we'll get "can this algorithm beat doom".
"AI learns to play Touhou"
You mean something like this?
