Washington (CNN)The White House has prepared the paperwork for President Trump to pardon former sheriff Joe Arpaio when he makes the final decision to do so, CNN has learned. An administration official said the White House has also prepared talking points to send to surrogates after he is pardoned. One of the talking points is that Arpaio served his country for 50 years in the military, the Drug Enforcement Administration and as Arizona's Maricopa County sheriff, and that it is not appropriate to send him to prison for "enforcing the law" and "working to keep people safe."
CNN
And here the trend starts for pardoning criminals just because they say "go trump"
But.... he wasn't enforcing the law and working to keep people safe.
Ohhh I fucking dare you, you giant egotistical sponge with a toupee. He isn't being sent to prison for "enforcing the law" or "keeping people safe", he was sent to prison for ignoring a judge who told him to stop detaining Latinos just to perform immigration checks. That's not enforcing the law, it's defying it. Go ahead and keep weakening the force of law, Trump, and keep lending your public support to racists. When the armed revolution or the military coup comes, you'll wonder why America's suddenly turned violent. Hint: Those raising arms against you are the patriots, not the traitors.
I am not remotely surprised that the president of Neo-Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan is issuing a pardon for an open racist who acted in direct defiance of a judge ordering him to stop illegally detaining and torturing Latinos. This administration is a sickening and shameful stain on our country's history, and this pardon is a gross abortion of justice.
fucking do it, see how much more you can make decent people hate you
Criminals who the law won't touch have vigilante justice to fear. If Arpaio's smart, he'll beg Trump not to pardon him.
He's also testing the pardon power. Methinks he'll need it soon for more than just ol racist Joe.
"Law and Order."
Do it, you walking sack of pustules. I fucking dare you. You already refused to denounce fucking nazis, just actively stick up for them already. Go on and show your true colors.
Anyone who says he isn't courting racists at this point is completely full of shit. This is pretty much him saying it out loud.
Courting? Trump *is* a closet white supremacist. It's the only explanation that makes any sense, considering his actions throughout his campaign and through his presidency.
Question: Do pardons invalidate double jeopardy rules? Can he be tried for the same crime twice? Or, if he does the same thing again can he still be tried?
Question: Do pardons invalidate double jeopardy rules? Can he be tried for the same crime twice? Or, if he does the same thing again can he still be tried?
To the best of my understanding, when he's pardoned double jeopardy still applies.
Question: Do pardons invalidate double jeopardy rules? Can he be tried for the same crime twice? Or, if he does the same thing again can he still be tried?
Yes, he can still be tried for a different instance of the same crime.
Question: Do pardons invalidate double jeopardy rules? Can he be tried for the same crime twice? Or, if he does the same thing again can he still be tried?
He can't be charged for the same instance of that crime, but if he goes and does the same thing again, he can be charged for the new instance. Of course, this pardon is tantamount to a direct presidential endorsement for the illegal detainment and torture of people based only on the color of their skin. Arpaio will not face justice for his crimes, regardless of whether or not he continues to commit them, because Trump supports them and will excercise his power of pardon in defense of them. Even more alarmingly, this sends a clear message to law enforcement nationwide: it's okay to illegally detain and torture minorities.
Criminals who the law won't touch have vigilante justice to fear. If Arpaio's smart, he'll beg Trump not to pardon him.
what if this leads to the creation of actual fucking batman/daredevil tier superheroes
I hope I live to see the day where Trump is led from the whitehouse in handcuffs
I hope I live to see the day where Trump is led from the whitehouse in handcuffs
3 and a half years isn't that long a time. I'm sure you'll make it.
3 and a half years isn't that long a time. I'm sure you'll make it.
Dude they dont arrest everyone who loses the election :v:
Oh fuck no this shouldn't happen, Arpaio was a shitty cop and an even shittier person.
Arpaio is charged with contempt of court. If he is pardoned, it tells people like Arpaio that they can ignore the court. Thus, undermining the authority of the judicial branch
Arpaio is charged with contempt of court. If he is pardoned, it tells people like Arpaio that they can ignore the court. There's an alarming trend recently of the judiciary being vilified by populism. It happened in the UK too.
Dude they dont arrest everyone who loses the election :v:
Trump didn't get the memo after beating Hillary. Then again, he didn't really care.

Many nations have been lost on the mistaken belief that civilian control of the military is an acceptable sacrifice to cure political ills. I know Trump is far from a respectable or competent president, but destroying the political, philosophical, and moral foundations of our nation wouldn't magically make things better.

But if Trump keeps on this path I fear one or the other is inevitable.
I can only hope people will be in the streets of he did
I saw that BDA mentioned he tortured minorities, how so? I haven't read up on this guy at all really.
I saw that BDA mentioned he tortured minorities, how so? I haven't read up on this guy at all really.
To start with, he essentially bragged about how he ran his jail almost like a concentration camp, including forcing inmates to wear pink prison garb and keeping them outside in a tent city. In Arizona. His successor shut that shit down promptly. It may not surprise you to learn that "Racist" Sheriff Joe and his department tended to arrest Mexican-looking folk a lot more than white people. Starting to see how "torturing minorities" is actually fairly accurate? And when a judge told him not to, he clearly understood but loudly proclaimed that he and his department would continue doing "what he had always been doing" and then proceeded to go ahead and do it -- and then he got slapped with contempt of court and a token six-month sentence, which he's unlikely to serve at his age. And Trump wants to pardon him. :goodjob:
