• Petition to stop meters on Canadian internet use

http://openmedia.ca/meter If you are Canadian, sign this petition. It's to stop a congressional movement by the larger telecommunications companies to provoke a nationwide transition from the current ISP billing system, a cap on your internet bandwidth, to a new, pay-by-the-byte system. It wouldn't be bad if it was maybe offered as an option, but they wish to force the entire nation's ISP companies to utilize this new method. As said, its BY THE BYTE, which means it will be horrifically overpriced no matter what they charge. One youtube video at full 10 minute length with audio can equate to about 800mb streamed data, which equates to 800 000kb, which is 800 000 000 bytes of data. Even if they charge fractals of a cent, anyone who has watched a full movie online, or viewed about an hours worth of youtube videos in a day, already will have a massive internet bill. Help us out, I'm not sure if Americans can sign the petition, but if we don't stop this movement here all that's gonna happen is it will spread.
Thats fucking gay. Signed.
I'm Canadian and this is bullshit.
My internet is horribly overpriced already, fucking signed.
I'm not Canadian.
If I was Canadian I would sign it. If it's byte-by-byte, why would you pay an ISP? PFFFT, just use someone's WIFI that's near you and make them pay for it if this passes.
Pretty fucking stupid, I'll sign even though it probably won't do shit.
Signed. Here's hoping Elizabeth May can pull some weight for once. green party :canada:
Liberals and NDP are against this type of billing.
