We talk about books here. Books are good for you. Read some. RULES: 1) Talk about books and only books. No posts that don't have to do with books please. 2) DO NOT SPOIL BOOKS 3) When introducing a book, include a picture, breif summary, and personal thoughts on the book. 4) Do not flame others for their book tastes. Not even 'Twilight' I'll start by introducing some of my favorite books Dark Dude The story is about a Cuban, Rico, who suffered a severe illness at a young age that left him really pale. Add the glasses, and he looks like an average white boy. In a pretty bad part of NYC, black people and fellow cubans tease and hurt Rico all the time. His only protector was Gilberto, but after winning a small lottery, Gilberto moves to Wisconsin to receive more education. After Rico's dad tells him that he is sending him to a military academy for the summer, Rico and his heroin addict friend Jimmy, hitchhike from NYC to southern Wisconsin. But Rico's troubles don't end there.... Percy Jackson and the Lighting Theif On top of the Empire State Building, Olympian gods Zeus and Poseidon meet where Zeus reveals his lightning bolt has been stolen and accuses Poseidon's demigod son Percy Jackson for the theft. Poseidon reminds him his son is unaware of his true identity, so Zeus declares that unless Percy returns the lightning bolt to Mount Olympus before the next summer solstice, war will be waged. Percy himself is a seventeen-year old teenager who appears to be dyslexic, but has a unique ability to stay underwater for a lengthy time. Whilst on a school trip to the local museum, Percy is attacked by a Fury disguised as his supply teacher who demands the lightning bolt. She is chased off by Percy's best friend Grover Underwood and teacher Mr. Brunner, both of whom appear disabled. Upon learning the Fury's reason for the attack, Mr. Brunner has Grover take Percy and his mother Sally out to Camp Half-Blood, leaving behind Sally's lazy husband Gabe Ugliano. However, the three are attacked by a minotaur who appears to kill Sally, since she is unable to enter the camp. Percy kills the minotaur with its own horn and then faints from shock.
Why can we not change the title of these threads?
What title would you be wanting?
I'd feel something like, I don't know, lord jim, would be a little more appropriate. Props to the Nietzsche though
Do we really need a billion book threads one after the other? Can we get a literature section please?
I've been reading a lot of Harlen Coben books, got through almost all of them. Very good books if you enjoy crime/thriller/mystery. Many plot twists and suspense filled moments.
Just finished Absolutely brilliant use of imagery and foreshadowing, especially in the weather elements. Contrary to popular fiction, Frankenstein's monster is as eloquent as any human, and isn't some drooling electric bastard.
What title would you be wanting?
Books I forgot what fine literature truly meant for a moment
Books I forgot what fine literature truly meant for a moment
It fucked up for a second, but there you go.
is the "his dark materials" trilogy any good? i dont know if i should buy it
It fucked up for a second, but there you go.
Much obliged, my good man.
First four books are the best, but the whole series is fantastic. [editline]10th March 2011[/editline]
is the "his dark materials" trilogy any good? i dont know if i should buy it
Also these books are fantastic. I got so absorbed in The Amber Spyglass that I read the whole thing in a day.

It's hard to find books that interest me, but when I do find one, I never put it down.
I'm currently reading 'The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich' by William L. Shirer.
is the "his dark materials" trilogy any good? i dont know if i should buy it
I seem to remember it being awesome, but I really can't remember anything about it. :v: I should re-read them at some point.
Read Dead City. Tis a great zombie apocalypse book.

Lolita is a great book. Cosmos, too. the metamosphosis by kafka was pretty good, too.
^metamorphosis is great. Though process is better. I've just finally gotten book twelve of the wheel of time. Just wondering how many new storylines will be inserted in this time :P. Other than that I've recently been reading some stuff from adam troy castro. Pretty decent - I think he got the Phillip K. Dick prize. Unsure about that though.
I seem to remember it being awesome, but I really can't remember anything about it. :v: I should re-read them at some point.
Same for me, so I re-read them a couple months ago. Picked up a lot of symbolism that I missed the first time around when I read them in middle school.
I started reading "A Game of Thrones" it's an ok book so far.
I read this book about once a month. It's probably my favourite novel ever. It takes place in the far future, and it's very good. However, I can't provide a summary without spoiling, and I recommend you all try to read it.
Shakespeare's works count as books, right? They're generally in play format. If so, then fuck "A Midsummer Night's Dream". It is about nothing. When I read it I was bored out of my skull, and I usually enjoy Shakespeare. Comedy really isn't his thing. Don't read it, kids, it's a filler novel and I did not enjoy it.
