It looks like this cross compatibility of Microsoft’s upcoming next-generation console and Windows 8 PCs has just been confirmed by Dell on its official online shop. ... He went on to explain “The Xbox One runs on three distinct operating systems. One powers the games, another, the kernel of Windows 8, powers the apps and a third, always-on operating system, connects the two.”
And the webpage is still up too: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/sna.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~topic=xbox-one I searched and I couldn't find anything about this, so I don't think it is late, but it looks interesting if the Xbox One can do this, and it makes sense since the Xbox One OS is basically Windows 8 + Game OS. This cross platform attitude is also a nice direction for the Xbox, since the only reason an Xbox would really be worth buying is for the Kinect, the very comfortable controller, Windows 8 apps on the One, and it looks like Microsoft is testing streaming games from the Xbox to Windows 8 powered devices like Windows Phone 8, Windows 8, etc which they tried with Halo 4. If that was included I can definitely see my self buying an Xbox One, since I love being able to stream games to where I want them to be.
That's a pretty cool idea.
Windows 8 apps, Xbox one, said by Dell, with a 360 post icon So confused :pwn:
That's really cool, but in retrospect, what's the point? There aren't any Windows 8 apps where I think "damn, I wish I could run that on my Xbox!" [editline]21st October 2013[/editline] Also, there has to be a catch. That'd mean you can run Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Netflix, whatever, without Gold.

As for being able to use networked apps, it wouldn't be hard for MS to stick something in the OS that disallows it.
Make it so you need gold for Windows 8 apps!
This is totally something Microsoft would do.
PC Gaming is saved once again
This definitely won't be exploited at all.
Would it mean just Metro apps? If it means PC gaming on an Xbone, I'm sold. [editline]21st October 2013[/editline] Wait, it would probably be behind an XBL subscription. NVM I'll wait for the GabeCube
xbone runs windows 8 in the background like xbox 360 and 1 ran windows nt in the background, good on you microsoft, now tell us the fine print
This is just probably them hyping up Xbox One and what they actually mean is "You'll get a very similar version of WinRT Skype on your Xbox ONE" You'd think Microsoft would advertise the fuck out of this feature themselves.
I mistakenly wandered into the Windows Store once and realized that there wasn't anything there except for like a few crappy mobile games and the obligatory apps for services like Facebook, Netflix, etc
I'll believe it when Microsoft announces it. Seems too good to be true at the moment.
I mistakenly wandered into the Windows Store once and realized that there wasn't anything there except for like a few crappy mobile games and the obligatory apps for services like Facebook, Netflix, etc
I always hear that, and wonder what kind of apps people expect to see? What are they even looking for.
I just had a thought: What if the Xbone's OS is just windows, and you can access the desktop?
I just had a thought: What if the Xbone's OS is just windows, and you can access the desktop?
because operating systems add overhead consoles don't like overhead
because operating systems add overhead consoles don't like overhead
I know, it's just a silly conjecture.
So wait they just opened the gateway for us to use competitors stuff like Chrome for Windows 8 and anything else in the store?
It'll probably be a limited store guys, Meaning no chrome or any competitor products. I really don't know how'd they do most of it unless they are saying the only thing you need gold for is just multiplayer.
TBH there's fuck all on the Windows store atm so this will be very beneficial
This is the Windows Store...
xbone runs windows 8 in the background like xbox 360 and 1 ran windows nt in the background, good on you microsoft, now tell us the fine print
xbox original used Windows CE, Xbox 360 used a totally different OS and the Xbox one runs 3 OS's, one being Windows 8
Isn't there a emulator on the Windows Store? I saw one when searching for apps for my windows rt. Emulator on Xbox One? :v:
