Paul Ryan conference over, notes:
-Republicans acknowledge they are having "growing pains" as they go from opposition to being in power. -Ryan told Trump they should pull it. -Ryan believes the bill would improve the healthcare system. -Ryan believes Obamacare will get worse. -All members could contribute to the bill (isn't that the usual?) -Trump did everything possible to get people to vote yes. -Bill failing is a setback. -Republicans committed to honoring their promises. -Ryan believes Obamacare is so flawed that it cannot be propped up any further. -Republicans definitely did not get consensus, ergo they pulled the bill. -The BILL was pulled, not just the vote, based on what Ryan says. -Republicans set to edit the bill to get consensus for it to pass. -Some of the "No" votes were converted to "Yes" votes, but not enough to pass the bill. -Obamacare is the "law of the land" until it is replaced. -Ryan has no idea how long it will take to replace the law, "foreseeable future" is how long it'll be in effect. -Ryan says consensus for the fifteenth time. -Ryan acknowledges it is difficult to get 216 people to agree on something. -Republicans set to move on with the rest of their agenda despite the healthcare plan failing. -Tax reform, infrastructure, border security and military rebuilding is on the agenda. -This failure is not representative of the future of the government. The Republicans agree on a lot of other things, just not this. -Ryan says it was easier in opposition because they could just say "no", now they actually have to agree on things. -Republicans "disappointed" that they fell short. -The bill would have made "phase two" a lot easier. No clue what "phase two" is. -Bill failing makes tax reform "more difficult", presumably that's what phase two is.

Trump's healthcare vote withdrawn after Republican leaders fail to gain enough support for Obamacare replacement Mr Trump told House Speaker Paul Ryan to pull the bill after it became apparent it would not get the minimum of 215 Republican votes needed. The withdrawal is seen as a huge blow to Mr Trump. Repealing and replacing the programme known as Obamacare was one of his major election pledges.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-39387550
How many votes to repeal Obamacare? Two more House Republicans announced they’re voting “no” this afternoon. According to CBS News’ latest tally, over 35 Republicans will not vote for the bill in its current form. Republicans need 215 votes for passage of the American Healthcare Act. They can afford to lose 22 votes, since Democrat Bobby Rush, whose wife recently died, will not be attending the vote. A tied vote in the House would mean that the measure fails.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/health-care-vote-the-latest-news/
Trump just pulled the vote. https://twitter.com/costareports/status/845357678390104066
Trump just pulled the vote. https://twitter.com/costareports/status/845357678390104066
Anyone want to elaborate on what this means? Does this mean the bill is dead? Or have they just reshuffled the vote? OH WAIT I LOOKED AT C-SPAN: They still don't have the required votes to pass it. If they can't get them during the recess, the bill is dead.
Anyone want to elaborate on what this means? Does this mean the bill is dead? Or have they just reshuffled the vote?
Pretty much means that the vote is postponed. Bill is still alive though, and can still be passed, but not today.
They do a count of who will vote what before the real vote, pulled it to save face basically as it was going to fail.

The decision came a day after President Trump delivered an ultimatum to lawmakers – and the defeat represented multiple failures for the new president and House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.). The decision means the Affordable Care Act remains in place, at least for now, and a major GOP campaign promise goes unfulfilled. The decision also casts doubt on the GOP’s ability to govern and to advance other high-stakes agenda items, including tax reform and infrastructure spending. Ryan is still without a signature achievement as speaker – and the defeat undermines Trump’s image as a skilled dealmaker willing to strike compromises to push his agenda forward. Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-Ala.), who planned to vote for the legislation, said that Friday would have been the “first big vote in the presidency of Donald Trump. I think it’s a statement, not just about him and the administration, but about the Republican Party and where we’re headed.”
Shep Smith is reporting the bill is dead as dick now.
Well that was a waste of everyone's time and nerves
Can a mod change the title to "Obamacare replacement vote withdrawn after lack of support" or something along those lines?
Good riddance to another piece of GOP rubbish.
Literally the only thing the GOP has be frothing at the mouth to do since Obamacare became a thing. And they can't even get themselves together to actually do it...
It probably won't happen, but there's a chance dems could call a vote to order a roll call vote on the bill, they just need some 20 r's to join them to force the bill to a vote. Probably won't happen.
Can a mod change the title to "Obamacare replacement vote withdrawn after lack of support" or something along those lines?
Edited it, due to the quick change of events the new title does make a lot more sense.
trump is a waste cadet
Literally the only thing the GOP has be frothing at the mouth to do since Obamacare became a thing. And they can't even get themselves together to actually do it...
Yes and its basically a lose-lose for them, a large portion of their voter base relies on it for coverage. If it passes they lose their support. If it fails they look weak and it sets a big precedent for how this presidency and congress is going to govern. Years of flinging shit at the dems for quick points at the polls and they've backed them selves into a corner.
Fox reporting Trump's not done yet. He's gonna reach out to Dems and stop trying to court the Tea Party congressmen that bucked him over this bill.
Fox reporting Trump's not done yet. He's gonna reach out to Dems and stop trying to court the Tea Party congressmen that bucked him over this bill.
Yeah that will work. Sure.
Several of the GOP were voting against it simply because it didnt flat out repeal everything Obamacare has done. Could they do a bill even worse than this one and have it pass?
Yeah that will work. Sure.
A bipartisan bill would be great
A bipartisan bill would be great
The closest we got was the ACA. Frankly, the GOP can piss off and get no say in the matter.
Fox reporting Trump's not done yet.
The closest we got was the ACA. Frankly, the GOP can piss off and get no say in the matter.
A lot of hate the ACA got was because of the parts that were added to make it bipartisan, and the Republicans still refused to support it.
And now we bear witness to the largest battle that middle earth has ever seen. Prepare for a healthcare shitshow over the next few years.
A bipartisan bill would be great
Wasn't Obamacare bipartisan though? Hell the reason it turned out half-assed was because both sides got a say in the matter.
People are saying two minutes in the Ryan stream, so expect him soon. It's either two or ten. Yeah, it's ten, I'm an idiot.
Oooooh this is going to be juicy.
