Australian airline Virgin Blue has reportedly sacked a flight attendant who put a toddler in an overhead locker.

The airline has also offered free flights to the child's "devastated" mother, according to Australian newspaper Herald Sun.
Natalie Williamson claims that her 17-month-old son Riley was placed in a locker by a steward while on a flight from Fiji to Sydney three months ago.
However, according to Virgin Blue, the flight attendant put the young child in the compartment because he was taking part in a peek-a-boo game with him and Ms Williamson's estranged husband.
Ms Williamson told the paper: "My husband, Shayne, was standing one metre behind my son, Riley, when the air steward picked him up and placed him in the overhead compartment.
"I stood up and there were people laughing and then I said 'Get my son out of there now'", adding, "I was devastated. I was absolutely devastated. I was crying. My husband was in shock. For days on end I was crying."
Riley, who was locked in the overhead compartment in complete darkness for a reported ten seconds, is said to have been suffering from anxiety since the incident took place.
A Virgin spokesperson commented: "We have expressed our sincere apologies to the guest and have provided them with a credit for the full amount of the two return flights."
I cracked up, however the woman overreacted quite a bit. You wouldn't cry for days on end because your kid was a little cramped.
aww fuck can a mod change the title to 'sacked' instead of 'sued'
You think that's bad, you have no idea how many toddlers are playing hide and seek in the fuel tanks.
"For days on end I was crying."
It's in the US?
SUE!
I must say that's a bit dickish of the attendant. Toddlers get pretty fucking scared over small things, being picked up by someone you don't know and being placed in a cramped location would make you shit yourself at that age.

"Oh no, my baby was in a small dark place for ten seconds, this is the end of the world"

Okay yeah that's just silly. I mean, I can understand them being a little unhappy, but this is a fantastic use of the word overreaction
Crying for days over this shit? That's just stupid. The dad was playing with the kid, and how the kid suffered anxiety over being in there for only 10 seconds is just beyond me.
I thought babies were cargo, am I wrong?
My kid just stubbed his toe.
brb gonna kill myself.
squeeze...squeeze them for every dollar
they did after all put your amazing kid in darkness for ten whole fucking seconds, that's insane
The woman's overreacting, probably did the drama for the money.
Oh my god how dare you even go near my child I'll blow your head off and sue your family for 1 million dollars.

You've obviously never felt what it feels like to give birth to a beautiful young son and you love him and teach him all you know and then riding on a plane some dipshit flight attendant forcefully grabbed your baby while insulting it and stuffed in in a small dark cramped place where he hit his head then was passed out and left on the plane and you forgot him and he ended up in Lithuania.

This has happened to me so many times. :smith:
yeah I'm sure he's been "suffering from anxiety"
come off it
I would've loved to crawl around in those motherfuckers when I was a babby
planes are fucking boring

I don't think anyone has
judge or whoevers handling the sueing needs to tell the woman to grow up. If she's crying for days on end because her toddler was put through 10 seconds of being in the dark then imagine how she'll react when her kid gets in their first fight/starts getting bullied etc etc
there is no suing going on it was a typo

To be fair, if some random flight attendant took my kid and stuffed him in an overhead compartment without my permission, I'd be mighty pissed too.

17 months old is old enough for something like this to scare the shit out of them but not old enough to realize how benign the event was.
It's in the US?
SUE!
Yeah, except it wasn't in the US and no one's getting sued.

Then that toddler shouldn't have started playing peek-a-boo with the attendant, though not sure why the estranged father didn't say anything since he was also apart of the game.
It's in the US?

He was Sacked. Not Sued.
Yeah, except it wasn't in the US and no one's getting sued.
Virgin Records.

What do you think Virgin Airline's Airbus fleet is powered by?
They did a skit in Come Fly with Me where Matt Lucas put some kid in the overhead locker, shame I can't find it online.
To be fair, if some random flight attendant took my kid and stuffed him in an overhead compartment without my permission, I'd be mighty pissed too.
She was helping the toddler find a hiding place. She was more than likely just trying to be friendly/playful, and this crazy ass woman decided it would be a good idea to take it seriously and get media attention.
What do you think Virgin Airline's Airbus fleet is powered by?
Haha, but Virgin Blue (the airline in the news article) does not operate a single Airbus aeroplane. They're all Boeing 737s.
