Sony today announced that its new 4K streaming service, called Ultra, will launch in the US on April 4th. Ultra was first announced back at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, when Sony revealed that the service would be available as an app exclusively on the company's new line of HDR 4K sets. Although it's an Android TV app, Ultra can only be accessed on Sony hardware for now.
Source: http://www.theverge.com/2016/3/29/11325628/sony-ultra-4k-streaming-service-launch-april-4
wonder if isps will actually take 4k streaming seriously, since this will definitely bottleneck your internet if you're sharing in a household.
I don't like that they're limiting it to only their hardware. Not only is it annoying for me as a consumer, but also I would think it would be detrimental for them to limit their customer base and by extension the licensing deals they can get.

As if you start something like a 4K streaming service and everyone could get on it right away chances are you would bog the network down and all the data you get wouldn't help optimize how it's done.
Unlike Netflix, Ultra will require customers to purchase individual titles at $30 each.
This thing is dead.
30 dollars. Why not just buy the bluray at that point. You can practically guarantee they are going to be overcompressing this, so it's going to look worse than a proper 1080p bluray.
This thing is dead.
And they wonder why piracy is through the roof.

Between Netflix and Amazon Prime, you can get basically all of the available 4k movies. That's How I do it on my X850C.
Don't you have to pay more on Netflix to get 4k?
Don't you have to pay more on Netflix to get 4k?
Yeah. It's like $12/month instead of 10.
Most annoying shit is that Google Play Movies and Amazon Prime Video restrict you to 480p on the web player, HD only works on certain devices due to licencing bullshit apparently
