The Bank of Canada is anticipating to start printing the new bills within the next 18 months. "These new notes will have security features and they will be easy to authenticate," said Julie Girard, a spokeswoman for the Bank of Canada. "People will know if it's genuine and (the new bank notes) will be hard to counterfeit... All of this will help us stay ahead of counterfeiters."
Finally, plastic money instead of the old paper stuff. Now can we get rid of the penny please?
Oh this is rich.
following in australia's footsteps :australia: [sp]inb4 australia bans x joke[/sp]
Haven't they been doing this in australia? FUUUU ninja
This will be fun. Now more dumb 16 year old cashiers will tell me they can't accept my money because they don't recognize it. I had an old $20 bill and she wouldn't take it because she didn't think it was real. Bitch.
following in australia's footsteps :australia: [sp]inb4 australia bans x joke[/sp]
You're Australian? Do the bills feel like paper or are they like those plastic sheets used for binder/folder dividers? And are they waterproof? Will my money fear the washing machine no more?

is there a pic of the new bills?
What kind of money do you have? The euro always was washing prove, even DM was.
Our money is made out of cotton. It feels like stiff paper. Everyone knows what happens to paper when it gets wet. [editline]06:38PM[/editline]
is there a pic of the new bills?
I assume they'll retain the current design, but with a transparent section instead of the current reflective section.
Australian notes feel like a glossy paper. Indeed they are waterproof, and even come with a little hologram thingy!
God, money you can't counterfeit? Another reason why nobody likes Canada.
Will my money fear the washing machine no more?
I FUCKING HATE THIS. Hmm, laundry time.. OH FUCK. THERE GOES TWENTY FUCKING DOLLARS.
God, money you can't counterfeit? Another reason why nobody likes Canada.
You're just jealous that we're getting spacemoney

i remember on a 5 dollar australian bill you can fold to where this lady is sucking a whales cock or something.
I didn't realise UK notes were waterproof. I accidently left my wallet in my pocket a few weeks ago as it got washed. Afterwards my notes came out clean and looking new :D
Singapore made the jump to these polymer-based monies several years ago, I think it was Australia that started it all. It's fantastic, so much more durable than regular 'paper' notes. This is really a good idea.
I hate it how the art on our notes has gradually become less and less interesting. Previously we had orchids, then birds, then ships. Now we have this stupid man on all our notes. >:(
i remember on a 5 dollar australian bill you can fold to where this lady is sucking a whales cock or something.
That was only before Australia banned currency (children might swallow notes and coins)
The US should do this too.
I say we revert to giantass stones for money.
Haha Canada wait shit that's me
I say we use cards only. [editline]03:01AM[/editline]
Haha Canada wait shit that's me
Ay?
they want to increase usage of oil?
I say we use cards only.
If we used cards only there would be no real money in the system, as opposed to the 5% in the system right now.
Northern Ireland has these.
Polymer notes are THE shit. You can probably see the micro-script on the $20 that has "TWENTY DOLLARS" re-curing.
I hope they put Pierre Trudeau on the new $20 like they've discussed some.
Sounds like a good move.
