How is this guy still around?
Because most people are sick of democracy. Every single election cycle you have the same candidates, backed by massive super PACs, making the same promises and delivering nothing. Every single election in the last 40 years has had a lower voter turnout than the last one because so many people are losing faith in the system. The reason so many people flock to Donald Trump is because he's real, he isn't backed or funded by anyone and so he can say whatever he wants, he doesn't have to worry about offending financial backers by making a stand on any issue that might cost him support. It's also refreshing to hear someone with authority talk without giving a damn about Political Correctness, which most working class people are sick of. That's my analysis at least. I don't even live in America, but I can see why people support him.
Careful. You can't say anything positive towards republicans on facepunch.
It's always important to try and understand/speculate where the other side is coming from. That way, people can start deconstructing their arguments better :sax:

Being "real" and "not PC" doesn't really mean anything or all, it's part of a superficial persona no different any that of any other phony politician
"because he's real" A resurrected Hitler is nothing to be happy about.
Why do people always compare him to Hitler? Don't really care / follow politics very much.

Reminder that Ron Reagan was not a politician.
Why do people always compare him to Hitler? Don't really care / follow politics very much.
Mostly because of his xenophobia and base demagoguery.
"because he's real" A resurrected Hitler is nothing to be happy about.
okay I don't like trump but that is a bit over the top
Why do people always compare him to Hitler? Don't really care / follow politics very much.
I personally dont compare him to hitler, thats a pretty dumb thing, but the whole 'blaming everything on mexicans/muslims' is akin to 'blaming everything on the jews' to a lot of people.
Why do people always compare him to Hitler? Don't really care / follow politics very much.
basically political ignorance, this statement is most common in high school campuses when you don't like a politician but can't really come up with any reasons why. same as calling bernie a communist, or hillary a bitch or cunt. in fact i compared romney to hitler during the 2012 election season when i was like 14-15 lol
I do not call her a bitch or a cunt. I do call Hillary a crook and not to be trusted.
I do not call her a bitch or a cunt.
and that's fine as long as you have your reasons/facts to back it up. but most people just parrot the liar/thief/murderer excuses because they saw someone on twitter say it and it makes her look bad
I do not call her a murder. She has rumors of having had some people killed but there is no evidence for it. Nor do I think she is a thief. Far I can tell she has not stole any public funds or used her power to rob people directly. Her ties to Wall Street are well documented and that to me is concerning. Personally I see the crookedness of Clinton as a symptom and not the cause of America's problems. That is off topic. This thread is about Trump.
Why do people always compare him to Hitler? Don't really care / follow politics very much.
Appeals to populist sentiments that [del]Germany[/del] America isn't that great anymore, blames weak leadership and foreign threats of Mexicans and Muslims. I don't think Trump is Hitler, but he campaigns in a way that is very rarely seen in American politics that brings to mind the nationalistic fervor that drove the Nazi's to totalitarian leadership headed by Hitler.
"because he's real" A resurrected Hitler is nothing to be happy about.
every time hitler is brought up in a trump conversation i immediately think of pasty white males screaming ARE YOU KIDDING ME

"Make america great again" is just as empty a saying as Obama's "Change". Years ago he claimed he was for a Canadian-style healthcare system. Now he says Obamacare is ineffective (It is, but that's beside the point) and should be replaced. Talks about building a wall yet abundance evidence shows that money spent on it is useless and wasteful. He's taken advantage of eminent domain laws to build his businesses, fucking over individuals and small business. Also supports bans on so-called assault weapons. He flip-flops on all sorts of shit and is no different than Clinton on that regard. In the first debate he said, “Our leaders are stupid. Our politicians are stupid.” The governments current policies are a problem; and "outsider" politicians with the same policies are going to be the same exact problem. Thinking he's no different just because he knows how to talk the talk is foolish. There is not a single good candidate in this entire elections, as always.
Reminder that Ron Reagan was not a politician.
Ronald Reagan? The actor??
Ronald Reagan? The actor??
Who's vice-president? Jerry Lewis?
It's a political thread. I feel like talking about Clinton is fair game.
Here is what I think hands down. Hillary would be better as a defense attorney. I would not want her in office but if I needed someone who had the character to get things done,. I would very happy to hire her as my lawyer. Not I would vote for her. As for being a servant of Wall street. That not exactly a bad thing. During The Guilded Era, JP Morgan himself gave, bailed out or loaned the US government money so it can keep functioning. Out of patriotism or out enlightened self interest does not matter. He acted sometimes in a way that benefited the public good. History buffs could correct me but there was a time there was no public funded libraries. They were libraries open to the public that were funded by the rich. If the plutocrats today had the same sensibilities it wouldnt upset me so much. The problem? They seem these days have the morality of sharks and the foresight of a snail. The recession of 2008 was committed by them. Wholesale fraud that ruined lives, entire economies and nations. Let not forget the greed factor behind not wanting to acknowledge global warming. This is unacceptable.
Careful. You can't say anything positive towards republicans on facepunch.
Gattdamn libbies!
basically political ignorance, this statement is most common in high school campuses when you don't like a politician but can't really come up with any reasons why. same as calling bernie a communist, or hillary a bitch or cunt. in fact i compared romney to hitler during the 2012 election season when i was like 14-15 lol
Do you have any reasons why he isn't? Because he is a demagogue promoting xenophobia and hatred, appealing to the base feelings and prejudices of bigots. He's claiming to "make America great again" by firing up the ultra nationalists and he's planning to do everything that should seriously disqualify you from having any seat of power in a nation's capital. He wants Mexico to fund the building of a massive wall between the US and Mexico, he wants to destroy trade relations between the US and China (which would fuck us in the long run), he wants mass deportations of illegal immigrants from the country and who's to say he'll stop at just illegal immigrants? Realistically, these things would need support from congress, but the actions of the common person that supports these proposals is also important to focus on. There have been minorities attacked at his rallies just for being present there, and Trump hasn't frowned upon that at all. He's a flip-flopping idiot that just spews garbage from his mouth. He is a scary joke, anybody supporting him is even scarier, and you don't understand that.
Careful. You can't say anything positive towards republicans on facepunch.
That's pretty wrong since John McCain has universal love on this forum. It's just that GOP has pushed forward absolutely shite far right candidates this season and everyone is laughing at them.
Here's the dealio. While Trump shares qualities with Hitler, those qualities are not the qualities that made Hitler a truely atrocious horrible person. Xenophobia and demagoguery are bad, but the reasons Hitler was one of the greatest monsters of the 20th century were the mass murder and world domination things, not attempts to expel immigrants and appeal to the lowest common denominator. When you say someone is "like Hitler", you're suggesting that they share the most notable qualities of Hitler, the desire for murder and world domination, which just isn't true at all in this case. Yes, both he and Hitler were xenophobes. Yes both he and Hitler were demagogues. But that doesn't implicate Trump beyond saying "he's a demagogue and a xenophobe".
Donald Trump may not be everything Hitler was, but he's certainly comparable to him. He loves to blame everything on Mexicans and Muslims. He spouts how this country has gone down the shithole and he'll make it great again. He blames everything on the current politicians and diplomats. He wants to be able to sue the media for "libel" essentially ending free speech for it. He spews how he "wants to make this nations great again". He even fucking wants people to pledge to vote for him. To say he isn't comparable to Hitler is completely fucking retarded.
Didn't the mass murder and world domination stuff happen after Hitler came into power?
