The left doesn't believe in the likelihood of this form of violent governmental control, but has similar paranoia with any sort of empowered individual. Look at some of the insane anarchist ramblings about police. Look at academia, and the active threats of violence and censorship. The abstract components of the ideas are nearly identical, and the root causes are as well. The differences come down to which parties are being painted as the villains and victims. You can argue that some groups are far more rabid than others, and you wouldn't be wrong in saying so, but you can't deny that both sides are partaking in eerily similar behavior. Isolation leads to a lack of discourse. As the saying goes: Bad ideas are like mushrooms. They thrive when kept in the dark, buried in the shit created by other bad ideas.
